I think arguments against reading the code generally miss the fact that code is as much a form of communication as it is a means to get what you want done
You don’t need to know everything anymore, but you probably still need to know enough to communicate

This is the real me. Marco van Hylckama Vlieg.
I’ve been on X for a long time, and I’ve almost deleted my account several times because of being completely sick of it all, douchebags, AI discourse, people confidently explaining my own profession to me, and strangers with anime avatars calling me "a fucking grifter".
I’ve always been honest about who I am and what I build.
Sometimes probably too honest.
This post isn’t about sympathy.
It’s about what can happen when you use your real name, real face, real identity, and publicly announce every app idea before you’ve even finished making the icon.
I understand why some people stay anonymous.
I respect that.
Personally, I prefer attaching my full legal name to increasingly questionable software experiments.
Right now, I’m building an ever increasing amount of apps, games, an AI curriculum, a local web design business, a dead man’s switch service, a calorie tracker, a teleprompter, and possibly a procedurally generated fever dream made entirely out of abandoned office hallways.
It ain't cheap.
Mostly because AI services and Apple keep charging me for things.
I’m not doing it because I expect to get rich.
Although, to be very clear, getting rich would be completely acceptable.
I want designers to use AI.
I want creators to build things.
I want people to stop arguing for twelve hours and ship one actual product, if that.
I’m doing this because I believe in it.
And because apparently I am psychologically incapable of relaxing.
I’ve been rejected, ignored, ratioed, subtweeted, called a thief, called a boomer, called an AI bro, and informed by several people with zero shipped products that I am doing EVERYTHING wrong.
I’m tired of gatekeepers.
The real world gave me meetings, stakeholder alignment, and Jira tickets.
So I built my own apps.
You can’t stop me from creating.
You can’t stop me from shipping.
You can’t stop me from buying another cassette deck I absolutely do not need.
You don’t have power over me.
I’ve already debugged Xcode signing errors before.
You cannot hurt me.
I rebuilt myself.
Then I rebuilt the rebuild because the onboarding flow still wasn’t quite right.
You can try to break this version of me, but you’re going to fail.
Pain is powerful.
So is caffeine.
And I’m living proof.
LFG! 🔥
I'd be more excited about voice prompting if I didn't work (and live) around other people. Nobody needs to hear me rant at the LLM for hours at a time!
When it first came out, I tweeted that Fable definitely does not want to be your friend. Still true. It colleague-zones you. But in that context, it can be an effective, if a bit depressing collaborator. Still the most careful so I prefer it. But yeah, 100% not fun to be around.
When the Bin is sharper and smarter than the grifter he is about to replace. Clacton could not go wrong voting for @CountBinface he is a vast improvement in terms of credibility and honesty than Farage.
Most enjoyable places to urinate, in order:
Your own swimming pool
Your own garden
The sea
Someone else's swimming pool
Someone else's garden
A toilet
When defecating, the order is reversed.
