Hark, nerds! There's a decentralized social network that's actually used! I just joined Mastodon on Fosstodon (join me https://t.co/p1cEGUsJce) and found a network of open source developers using the Twitter-like microblogging platform.
@konrad_gnat Haha, sounds like herding cats, but not sure I agree. I would say that building humans differs in that they begin very small yet have embedded a lot of information (entropy) and they grow automatically with guidance. The entropy you inject during growth is small in comparison.
@monad A big class of such things is the difference between node.js and which of its apis have been wrapped/implemented for the browser. Some things that are lacking are low-level OS calls to the file system, networking, and crypto (funny enough)
Assume no such thing as secure network transmission so all messages may be logged for future decryption. Post-quantum algos help, forward secrecy helps.

TL;DR An insecure message encryption protocol enables breaking message, amount, receiver, and sender (on wallets with a recent patch) privacy, even if the sender doesn't explicitly specify a message.
