Your Google Business Profile has a services section that most business owners completely ignore.
It's one of the easiest ranking wins in local SEO and it takes about 20 minutes to set up.
Google uses your services list to match your business with specific searches. If someone searches "tankless water heater installation" and that exact service isn't listed on your GBP, you're less likely to show up. Even if you do that work every single day.
Most profiles I audit either have nothing in the services section or just have a few one-word entries with no descriptions. "Plumbing." "Repairs." "Drain Cleaning."
That tells Google almost nothing.
Here's how to actually fill it out.
List every individual service you offer. "Sewer line repair" not just "plumbing." "EV charger installation" not just "electrical work." Think about what your customers are actually typing into Google when they need you.
Then write a 2-3 sentence description for each one. Include the service name and your city naturally and describe what the service is and who it's for like you're explaining it to a homeowner over the phone.
Most contractors I work with have somewhere between 10 and 25 individual services they could list. The ones who actually fill this section out properly almost always see a bump in visibility for those specific searches within a few weeks.
There's also a Products section on GBP that almost no service businesses use. Product photos can show up directly in Map Pack results and give you one more visual edge over competitors who all look the same. All you need to do is add in your services as products and use a photo for each.
This is one of the first things we set up for new clients.
A competitor owned page 1 for our target keywords.

Tested every AI content workflow for 6 months across 5 client and internal sites. Different niches, real rankings.
Outcome: Only one approach consistently hit top 3 in Google.
Most people use ChatGPT wrong for SEO. They ask it to write an article → publish → wait.
Here’s the exact workflow that actually ranks 🧵👇
We’re at a turning point in SEO.
For decades, the playbook was simple: create great content, optimize for search, and watch the traffic roll in. A lot of successful businesses were built on that playbook. Semrush is a living example of this.
But generative AI has changed SEO forever. Here's what we’re noticing across the industry:
• Google is sending less traffic to websites as more queries are answered directly in AI Overviews
• AI chatbots like ChatGPT & Claudelargely cite big brands, making it harder for smaller sites to gain visibility
• With fewer clicks, SEO doesn’t deliver the same predictable ROI it once did
So, how do you build a successful online business when traffic sources are drying up?
Here's our analysis: https://t.co/wBoKmxG9iO.
@SchmelebeckPPC I separate all branded into it’s own campaign and use max impression share, targeting top of search. Then negative keywords on branded for my max conversions search campaigns. Depends on competition for branded, but cpc is similar to what you have for manual.
