It's the Easter holidays (2026), and I have two copies of Primary Reading Simplified to give away!
For your chance to win, simply retweet this tweet *or* reply below with the name of a children's book that you love.
(Or you can do both to double your chance of winning!)
@thismomloves Love the changes. I would have liked the math and literacy to be in separate frames/strands. The report card should be updated too so educators are not writing novels.
Fellow teachers, which of the following concerns you the most heading into this school year?
Feel free to comment, and re-tweet to help get more responses.
Even though many schools across the province already have balanced school days in place with two breaks during the day instead of two recesses and one lunch break, #ETFO has concerns.
The government focus on the school day structure won’t address the systemic issues students face, such as large class sizes, a lack of supports for students with special education needs, rising violence in schools, and chronic underfunding.
Changes to how the school day is structured must prioritize student well-being and learning, not convenience or cost-cutting.
And for occasional teachers or those on half-day assignments, such changes could create challenges as the midpoint of the day may no longer align with a natural break. This misalignment, if not addressed up front, could lead to more logistical staffing difficulties for schools and school boards.
ETFO is urging full consultations with educators. #onted #onpoli

🚨 BREAKING: The Ford government is taking control of four school boards — TDSB, OCDSB, TCDSB, and the Dufferin-Peel Catholic board — in a sweeping move that will likely undermine local democracy.
Minister Calandra claims it’s about “accountability” - but look at Thames Valley, already under ministry supervision:
❌ No public budget presentation
❌ No input from communities
❌ No accountability
This isn’t transparency. It’s a power grab!
Meanwhile, school boards are being forced to do more with less. Since 2018, the Ford government has taken more than $6 billion out of the classroom and funding has fallen FAR behind inflation. As we have said, and @OPSBA has said, per-student funding has dropped by nearly $1500 since Ford took office in 2018, leaving a $693M shortfall across English public boards this year alone!
They're just trying to distact from 7 years of chronic underfunding 😡

Educators who are still on X
I just went down a rabbit hole because of a concern from one mom.
A trend on Instagram (some tiktok) is of teachers sharing an idea of uploading their class photo to ChatGPT, and then it returns the photo as a colouring sheet. It's printed and given to the kids to colour.
There are HUGE privacy issues here
#1 - The teacher has no right to take a photo of a child and upload it to ANY AI model to train it, in return for a "cute" colouring project
#2 - Even if their school board approved (highly doubt it), and every parent approved (highly doubt it), then common sense needs to kick in and think about the privacy of our children.

Yesterday the Ford Government confirmed what unions have always stood for - that workers should have wages that are in line with inflation & defined benefit pension plans.
The issue is that they applied it solely for MPPs & not for all workers. #GoodForAll@OFLabour

This is why your child is not getting Educational Assistant support.
This is why there is no Spec Ed Teacher to help your child catch up on basic math or literacy skills.
This is why the ventilation in your child’s classroom is not working.
