I think operations is one of the areas and startups that people talk the least about. But the most efficient teams are the ones that end up winning.

This was an absolute home run hire by UCLA.

1) they conducted a thorough search led by smart people, and didn't lazily hire someone with UCLA ties.

2) They got "their guy". Chesney was UCLA's top candidate and they closed on him.

3) When they fired Mora for the lazy fraud Chip Kelly, they didn't realize they needed a down to the studs rebuild. Kelly was pompous, wasn't a tireless recruiter, and falsely thought he was the smartest guy in the room.

4) Retreads and more familiar names win the press conference, bust most often fail.

5) All coaching hires are a gamble. There's no guarantee that Lane Kiffin will win a natty and be worth the money at LSU. Chesney is worth the upside play for UCLA. He's young enough to be afforded the time necessary to build the program be envisions, and if he has success, UCLA will be the first major conf program
that he's les to success. Might think of it as his "baby" and want to stay long-term.

5) He's young and energetic. Listen to him talk and tell me you don't get Sean McVay vibes.

6) He's actually currently an HC at another currently successful program. He's not some HC without a job that no one's calling about

7) Highly doubt he would take the job without some form of a competitive NIL plan. If he doesn't get full support from UCLA's poorly run AD, all this is moot, and it won't matter. But UCLA has made some power moves now. Leaving the old Rose Bowl for the most state-of-the-art football stadium on earth in Sofi Stadium, got their top HC choice, and next should be an NIL plan.

7) Even if this doesn't work, and it turns out that Bruins are just cursed, this was a fantastic hire by UCLA.
