I’m not at all shy about blaming DEI where appropriate, and it often is appropriate. But I see no DEI angle on this jet crash. The female pilot was not flying the plane. The captain was a 55 year old man. Trying to blame the girl for the crash is absurd and baseless. Yes she seemed frantic and terrified in the radio call but I would be to, and so would you. And even if she’d been cool as a cucumber, there isn’t the slightest reason to think it would have made any difference at all.
I’ll fully admit that I wouldn’t get in a plane if the copilot was a 20 year old girl. But that doesn’t change the fact that there is no evidence that she was personally at fault. And for the record, becoming a pilot at 20 is pretty impressive. She had her shit together a lot more than I did at that age. I’ll say that at least. I don’t think airlines or private charter companies should be making any specific effort at all to be “inclusive” of women or whatever, but it’s still admirable for a kid to have a goal like that and pursue it. I don’t see any reason to mock her, as some have done.
Some of the comments about that audio recording have been callous to an unhuman degree. None of you would have the stoicism in that situation that you demand from this girl. And again, there’s no reason to think stoicism would have magically kept the plane from falling out of the sky. Besides, she actually did seem pretty calm in that recording until the last few seconds, relative to the circumstance she was in. I don’t want my pilot to panic but I also don’t want them to be completely indifferent to the prospect of a fatal crash, as some commenters here apparently expect.
@dollyqwe1 Yep! It’s ok to not want children. It’s ok to make decisions for your own future.
Children deserve to be born to parents who want them, are ready for them, and who can support them.
If any of those conditions aren’t true, abortion is absolutely the right choice.
I had an abortion when I was 25.
The pregnancy was neither the result of failed contraceptive(s) nor rape.
I did not have an abortion due to any financial hardship or instability. I did not have an abortion due to any relationship instability (I’m still w/ the same man 3 years later). I did not have an abortion due to any medical issue of my own or the fetus’. I simply just didn’t want a baby. I made a stupid decision, & I corrected my stupidity by getting an abortion.
I sought sterilization (salpingectomy) & was denied due to my age & lack of children. Apparently I can definitely know if I *want* children at that age & younger, but not if I *don’t* want children. Since then my partner got a vasectomy w/o issue.
I don’t regret it & I have 0 grief, shame, or trauma tied to it. The only time I ever think about it is when I consider how much I’d hate my life if I hadn’t gotten’ one.
This is not an attempt to glorify abortion, this is just me refusing to stigmatize a medical procedure.
This first-grade teacher says 100% of her students went to kindergarten, and almost all of them have both parents at home. A bunch of them even went to pre-K. Yet somehow these kids still can’t write the alphabet or count.
She can’t fail them. She can’t hold them back. So they just keep getting pushed to the next grade, year after year.
No Child Left Behind was the biggest disaster the education system has ever produced, and parents have stopped parenting, expecting schools to do it all for their children.
@SEpilogueG@OzorNdiOzor I absolutely appreciate this take. one of the most sensible comments here. he was born a male, he’s still a male. but they cannot ethically or morally place him with other male prisoners. male, female, or mutilated, no one deserves to be raped.
1.Women in Afghanistan are only allowed to see female doctors.
2.Women are banned from education beyond the 5th grade.
3.Women cannot become doctors and are banned from medical institutes.
Now read 1 again.
@darlingstrawbie neglectful careless parents make me want to drive my car into a brick wall. these people deserve consequences!!! their children deserve justice!!!
