Happy Birthday Astronaut David Scott born June 6, 1932. 9⃣4️⃣ Scott flew in space three times, Gemini 8, #Apollo9 & #Apollo15, was the 7th person to walk on the Moon, & later drove the lunar rover for the first time on the moon's surface during the mission

#OTD in 1970, the Apollo 13 crew got their first glimpse of the damage caused by the explosion that occurred 200,000 miles from Earth.
The recent Artemis II mission helps us comprehend the gravity of the situation.
Here's my photographic analysis of the damage:
Eyes peeled in the cupola awaiting the safe return of our @NASAArtemis friends. Our trajectory on @Space_Station will be passing nearby over the Pacific, so we hope to catch a glimpse!
"Earthrise" - one of the most iconic photographs ever taken, wasn't planned!
As the world awaits the images from the Artemis II fly-by later today, how was was the original "Earthrise" photograph, captured?
Here's part of an hour long interview I did with @cspanhistory recently.
"Welcome to my old neighborhood." Our @NASAArtemis II astronauts woke up on the sixth day of their mission to a special message recorded in 2025 by astronaut Jim Lovell, the pilot of Apollo 8.
Signal acquired! 📡
Engineers at @NASAJPL have confirmed that the Orion spacecraft is communicating with the Deep Space Network. For the first time in over 50 years, we’re receiving a signal from a spacecraft carrying humans toward the Moon.
Glynn Lunney ~ “Here’s the deal. If you’re going go to the Moon, then you have to go to the Moon. Now you go mess about in low Earth orbit and so on, but if want to go to the Moon, then eventually you have to go to the Moon.”
My new book, “Space Journal” has cleared the tower. I hope you enjoy it. Huge thanks to @thamesandhudson for making it real 🥂 Available here, there and everywhere: https://t.co/rOhr6Z8SP0
