I kinda giggle every time a patient accuses me of practicing medicine just for the money like?? There are much better ways of getting wealthy that require far less abuse and bodily fluids
@RyanMarino I mean, 1 cup/day CAN be harmful to some people. Just one small cup of coffee is enough to give me a panic attack, and I certainly perceive that to be harmful to me. though, of course, that does not qualify as addiction. It’s just my physiology.
@RyanMarino It really just depends on the individual and whether they meet the criteria for SUD in the DSM. You can also qualify for alcohol use disorder by drinking two glasses of wine every evening. We can’t paint the world with broad brush strokes or we, too, are cherry picking evidence
@RyanMarino It can be dependence, though it’s important to note that even just one coup of coffee every day can still qualify as addiction. The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) recognized caffeine use disorder as “a condition for further study.”

@RyanMarino That’s a shame. Though, it is important to discuss that caffeine addiction does exist. It is one of many substances listed in the DSM under SUD. But just having one cup of coffee every day does not necessarily qualify as addiction without meeting the remaining criteria for SUD
This take frightens me based on the multitude of organic causes of AMS that are quickly labeled as “psychiatric” and are subsequently caught by a psychiatrist. Can Clinical psychologists w/PhD’s interpret an ABG or EKG? Can they delineate b/w a neuro & psych cause of sx’s?
And, two years to the day of George Floyd's murder, cops are still killing 3 people a day. To pretend they equate with public safety is deadly. They don't keep us dafe, they protect the ruling class while draining resources from everyone else.

I can't get over how cops confronted the shooter at the door, let him get by them, then made up a story about body armor. While a teacher gave her life trying to defend her kids. The difference could not be clearer.
Pediatrician here. I want people to know that death by firearm is not rare in kids. In fact, it has been the #1 cause death in this age group since 2020. In 2020 alone, 4300 children died from firearms. That’s equivalent to one Boeing 747 plane crash every month for 9 months.
Why even be in Congress if you don’t believe in doing your job?
Just quit and let someone who actually gives a damn do it instead of acting like a useless piece of furniture when babies are shot with AR15s that we let teen boys impulse buy before they can legally have a beer.
Is it any wonder?
Is it any wonder?
What are we doing to our children? Why do we do this to them?
How can you take the masks off them, take the books from their libraries, & claim you've protected them? What would it take to convince you to actually protect them?
