We are thrilled to announce our next Emerald sponsor.
... Ready?
It’s TRMNL, widely loved by fashionable engineers and DIY tinkerers.
@useTRMNL is the premier ePaper dashboard powered by Ruby. Ryan is bringing a few devices for sale at the event, and we'll also give some away in exchange for Pier coins.
Lisbon friends, come listen to Nina's talk on how to protect yourself from supply chain attacks.
We've talked about this topic a lot and @ninoid_ is one of the people on our team actively building a more secure ecosystem.
If you go, send us pics!
@NathanJRobinson The fact that the premise of this argument relies on equivocating human intelligence with the sort of “intelligence” exhibited by AI is bizarre.
I’m not sure if this is a joke.
Did we tell you that all the coins you collect on The Pier turn into real gold at the conference!? 👀
Well, not gold gold, but Ruby Goodies.
We'll have collectibles, physical and digital Ruby products, and merch that you want to wear. Spoiler alert: there're TRMNL devices available, but you may need to fight @palkan_tula for them.
Don't walk, run to The Pier, and complete quests to get coins. (You'll need to walk there, tho, we don't have a running feature available).
@ZackKorman The popular narrative, and the impact of this narrative on the perception of the general public, as well as public policy, will have staying power. No hand wringing will undo that. This is a media cream dream. The question is what to do now.
I’ve got my tickets, looking forward to the conference. This weekend’s task, get my talk down from 5 hours to my allotted length. I guess I’ll have just have to cut the part about nuclear weapons. And the poem. Sad to see the poem go.
Booking my time off for work today because we're almost to Sep 28-29th, I reflected on how our sponsors make this worthwhile.
Shoutouts to @gustohq, @honeybadger.io, @appsignal, @beflagrant.com, @typesense, and @evilmartians for making RMR not just doable, but a treat!
We read the latest RubyAI issue by @mattsolt and were extra bummed about the chart that shows the big decline of new Ruby developers.
But the good news is that all engineers who come to SF Ruby are actively participating in making the ecosystem better to attract new people.
Being in the same room with founders of successful startups and authors of some of the best OSS tools in the language is the first step to making a better ecosystem and attracting new users.
We love Ruby and want to see it succeed. If you do too, let's meet at SFJAZZ this Nov 10–12.
Only 22 days to get tickets: https://t.co/3ktdxlfQDv
We've moved from Gatsby to @astrodotbuild. After years of procrastination, surprisingly, 1 engineer and @ClaudeDevs did it in 2 weeks! 61% less homepage JavaScript, mobile score 66 to 90, page weight 2.1 MB to 1.1 MB. The story, happy engineers, bugs and all: https://t.co/whXFHo56so
Announcing a solution to the Navier-Stokes problem, one of the seven Millenium Prize problem.
Represents a major milestone for both AI and mathematics, as well as pointing to an upcoming renaissance in scientific discovery.
Hoping that the knowledge created by this model can help the community better understand non-linear PDEs, which are used to model much of the physical world.
We're still looking for sponsors for @sfrubyconf to celebrate great Ruby success stories together.
The amazing team from @chatwootapp joined the event. Your company should come too!

@johnennis In terms of security concerns, I find these takes to be unnecessarily deflationary. It’s like saying, “oh that’s just cardiac arrest, your heart isn’t actually attacking and killing you.”
@johnennis “People” will not come to terms with this, they will continue to anthropomorphize these products. This a human tendency, observed since at least the ELIZA effect, and will have serious sociological consequences, regardless of the accuracy of the statements here.
@johnennis For an example of the inability of the public at large to grasp the notion of a “stochastic parrot” just look at how the Hugging Face incident is being reported in major outlets.
@johnennis Further, consumer-facing products are designed to leverage this tendency. Maybe *some* people in the industry will think this, but I expect division to intensify, not ease.
UFOs. Theology. Psychedelics. What they share is a framework for understanding ontological shock, and AI is giving programmers exactly that. @_Travis_Turner 's talk is unlike anything else on the schedule. Strap in. 👽✨
