@DanWoikeSports Great article, Dan. I think your words ring far truer than most realize: I think so many LAL fans didn't fully embrace Bron because he wasn't Kobe, because his arrival didn't feel organic, because of a trade (Russ) that set them back for years. THIS Laker fan will miss him a lot.
@KamBrothers I'm not a boxing guy at all but everything that surrounds it (the money, the glitz and glamour, the tragedy, and the alleged corruption) are truly fascinating to me, so if it's like that for someone who has no horse in the race, I can only imagine what it's like for a purist.
Strictly an attempt to regain some leverage for himself, or might there be a real opportunity for the Lakers to poach him? Thoughts, AK & BK? @KamBrothers
Difficult day for the Jazz on the optics front: Here you have Darryn Peterson refusing to work out for the team with the No. 2 pick, one year after Ace Bailey did the same (when they had No. 5).
Meanwhile, sources tell @TheAthletic that a player who does want to be there - big man Walker Kessler - is at odds with the front office over his lack of an extension offer last summer and the current handling of his restricted free agency.
More to come…
@KeithSmithNBA Gamblers is the perfect name but probably a little too on-the-nose, especially with companies like FanDuel sinking their claws further into the NBA environment. I also like Sinners, The Strip, Casinos, Blackjacks, Flushes, and The Oasis.
@KeithSmithNBA@spotrac Great work as always, Keith. I can only imagine the roster insanity that is waiting for us this summer. The free agent class might not be overly deep, but the NBA offseason is undefeated when it comes to drama and player movement, so I'm expecting some fireworks for sure.
@JoshEberley I've honestly never understood the appeal. Sure, it looks really nice but gives off major "Pocahontas in space" vibes and I just can't get behind it. Love Cameron's other films, Zoe and Sigourney are great, but still can't bring myself to watch.
@JacobRude A 2 for 1 or 3 for 1 consolidation trade almost has to happen now, right? Wiggins for Rui, Gabe and a first? I doubt they’ll move both the 1st and Knecht but I don’t know how hardball Riles wants to play
@jlikeshoops They still need to make a consolidation trade if only to shore up the wing and get some actually playable depth pieces. Wouldn’t be surprised if the Wiggins deal goes down but not at their desired price (think they’ll give them Knecht or the FRP, not both).
@KevinOConnorNBA Kevin, from what I've seen out there looks like the Lakers would be willing to include Dalton OR a FRP, but not both, in a trade for Wiggins. Does that sound about right? Is there any realistic way to move Gabe+Maxi+filler instead of needing Rui? Does this deal really get done?
@HoniAhm I'm not crazy about Wiggins either (think Rui is the better player), but he's a cleaner fit on this particular roster. Can't believe we haven't heard more about Goga, I think he'd be a great piece and fits Luka's style and timeline. Who knows if ORL would trade him, though
Billionaire owners getting the casual fan to side with them over the guys who actually play the game and provide the entertainment value remains one of the great con jobs of professional sports.
@trevorlane Hey Trevor, in your most recent Laker Nation video you said multiple times you’d prefer to have DFS and a TPMLE than no DFS and the NTPMLE. Using that as a guide, would you prefer DFS and a TPMLE acquisition or losing DFS and getting both BBJ/Capela w/ the NTPMLE?
