"Thursday briefing: Why Britain’s polluting water companies are refusing to make amends."
Turns out the amount of sh*t water industry executives talk is directly proportional to the amount dumped out of their sewage system.

@auxbuss@gow_derek You must be very careful in any assessment on species made - the English uplands constantly are told they only contain grouse and heather. The truth is they contain abundances of wildlife and fledging success unparalleled by many non NGO reserves. Maybe Duddon is the same?
@AidanGreenway @ecoevoenviro You are forgetting that for every sportsperson “shooting” on the day, there will be maybe 5 others also turning up and being paid - also loving being part of the day. I know plenty of birders who hate the “twitcher” and bird tick mentality
So @unitedutilities over abstract 22bn litres of water & get fined £800,000.
Result you might say.
UU charge over £3 for every 1,000 litres of water or in other words they made £66m from selling that illegally obtained water to the customers. 😡😡😡

@AndrewAholmes9 @cjm20192 @alextomo Would be interested in the areas you are talking about? Even @curlewcalls cited moorland management and gamekeeper density in the Peak District as contributing factors to the high numbers of curlew in the Peak District
@Underhillwood @curlewcalls If a hunch like that led to the cessation of predator control, our skies would sadly be bereft of wader calls in the springtime.
@MAP1891@1GarethWynJones Potentially not as dangerous as bracken. All chemicals come with warnings. But I suppose if you are against such applications then you will never see the benefits
Scottish Fire and Rescue Service official expresses concerns to @SP_RuralAffairs of consequences of restricting muirburn on the basis of peat depth. ‘Peatlands will in fact be at higher risk’.
A further 26 Pied Flycatcher chicks ringed in North Staffordshire. Positive news considering the clear insect issue this year. That take us to a total of 50 chicks on the farm all using the donated boxes following last years vandalism.
