F4, if you go upwind and maybe put the motor stationery forward, itvis in general much easier to have a long line outward the rig from the bow to the cockpit. You can slide past the mooring and upwind have good control over the speed. Once the mooring buoy is at cockpit height, grab it with the pike/hook. Your boat might be drifting backwards (upwind) so in general you can walk along to the front of the boat (lee of course) while you manhandle your prepared line through the mooring?
Dunno thats how I do it and I think how I read it in a UK book on mooring in currents.
