I don't have a good feeling about this. @huggingface is reportedly in talks to sell at 13B, roughly triple its 2023 valuation.

model weights are a commodity now. the hub every training script points at by default is not. distribution was always the moat.

does an acquired HF stay neutral? I don't think it will. Look at how openAI became closed when there was a monetary benefit involved. HF may face a very different future here on.

some skeptics might even keep some good OS open weights models downloaded before they are erased from existence. will you?
