PM openings are at the highest levels since 2022
There are over 7,300 open PM roles at tech companies globally, and trending up. This is 75% above the low we saw in early 2023, and already up nearly 20% since the start of this year. Today we have the most open PM roles we’ve seen in 3+ years.
I tried to warn designers.
This is exactly why I built @MagicPathAI, you need to lean more into AI native workflow.
You're getting outpaced by product and engineers now.
Prototypes are the new PRDs. If PMs are doing this, what do you do? You either own that or you're out.
Wake up, designers. While jobs across other functions are surging through the AI transition, design roles are stagnant.
Don’t take refuge in craft and taste. All members of technical staff must demonstrate newfound productivity. If that’s a topic you’ve avoided because it involves shipping or knowing your business model inside-out, you will struggle to make the case for your own field.
When designers can’t articulate their company strategy, it’s usually because they are neither its authors nor its executors.
Seeking new leverage is no longer optional.
Engineering job openings are at the highest levels we’ve seen in over 3 years
There are over 67,000 (!!!) eng openings at tech companies globally right now, with 26,000 just in the U.S. We don’t know if there would have been more open roles if not for AI or if AI is actually leading to more open roles, but since the start of this year, the increase in open eng roles is accelerating even more.
STATE OF THE PRODUCT JOB MARKET IN EARLY 2026
In spite of the headlines about layoffs and AI taking jobs, we’re actually seeing a lot of promising signs in tech hiring, and some interesting new trends:
1. PM openings are at the highest levels we’ve seen in over three years
2. AI hasn’t slowed the demand for software engineers (at least not yet)
3. AI roles in general are absolutely exploding
4. Design roles have plateaued
5. The Bay Area is increasing in importance
6. Remote work opportunities continue to decline
7. Despite ongoing layoffs, the overall number of tech jobs continues to grow
