@Curculiunculus @OxUniPress Agree! Reading over Cucchiarelli, no citation wrt fagina to the allusion to φήγινος ὄζον at Callimachus AP 6.351 (cf.Iliad 5.838). Interested in rep of phrase in Adesp. AP 6.37 dedication to pan by herdsmen. Is it the intermediary epigram that (partly) explicates fagina here?

@kateantiquity I want to be less pessimistic and value my PhD--I think reform is likely necessary, and if large-scale reconceptualization is the route, then the years to degree need to be cut drastically and some sort of co-op should be integrated

@kateantiquity More broadly, I wonder what is a PhD in this new world you imagine--essentially further training for critical thinking produced through some sort of long term research project? I believe the same level of training can be gained on the job and without the burden. Cui Bono?

@kateantiquity Humanities PhD now working in the business world. My organization has come to recognize the value of the PhD for my specific role. I am v. pessimistic that the culture shift you wish to see in how we conceptualize the PhD is possible.

Oh academics...email my closed/defunct .edu address. Receive no response. Less than a week later send grumpy email to private email address (supplied in earlier correspondence) asking why I have not replied. And yet--academics never respond to emails!
