@giuliapompili Part of the issue, I think, is the Post’s attachment to ‘hip’ non-emphatic idiom which may strike readers as minimizing.

@AntigoneJournal “Neither has any of the sea-perched isles” is a misleading rendition of Homer’s οὐ γάρ τις νήσων. The English implies that Ithaca and the isles are different entities; the Greek, that Ithaca is one of the isles.

@sentantiq A fair point - but the historicity of the Iliad and Odyssey is a different question from the historicity of the (or of ‘a’) Trojan War. Even from a TW perspective the Homeric epics are spin-offs.

@danhind This. The administration should, well, administer: payroll, paperwork, that kind of things. But decision-making should be firmly in the hand of faculty (and students). Otherwise the dynamic you describe becomes inevitable.

@GeorgeR12357 @kokorobitch @marro_bert This is well and good (sort of) in a grade-less system. But if I have to grade papers, then no, I have to be sure that they were written by the person who submitted them. Otherwise I’d be certifying knowledge and skill that aren’t actually there.
