@BrendanThompsn We have found sprinting to be self organizing. In other words, nothing teaches sprinting like max sprinting.
Occams Razor - the simplest solution is the best solution. Want to run fast? Run fast.
On a wet, rainy night, on field with standing water, in a game that would normally have been weather-cancelled, watched final game of season for CFHS and @brophylax.Surreal, but wonderful. Both sides played like it was State Championship. Joyous to see.
Players: If your coach holds you accountable, you are VERY fortunate. A lot of coaches accept their players doing whatever they want, whenever they want with no consequences. Discipline, responsibility & accountability are life prep! If your coach cares that much, respect it!
@_gameplaylearn_ When we see something magical, sometimes we ask ‘how do we coach that?’ When perhaps the question should be ‘how did they learn to do that?’ But this will take us away from the coach as the person with all the answers to the individual & how they experience the game.

Finish every Thursday practice with pick up games. Boys love it, creating, and getting after it. Coaches only job is to spectate and pelt the boys with tennis balls from sidelines! @JOYofthePEOPLE@JM3_Coach#freeplay#purejoyofthegame#azlax
Great day yesterday. U10’s win both, assists for almost every goal. U12’s win both and U14 wins only game. Thanks to Ahwatukee for traveling down. #rememberthetitans#azlax
This seems to be the strength of playing with friends, an unspoken, not fully understood, shared failure strategy. Learning belongs to the group. The tighter the group, the better the growth.
So should we be teaching...
Skills?
Or the ability to make real social connections?
Practices dominated by full field scrimmages, or 6 v 6 half field are examples of programs mired in the past. Small sided games, w/smaller goals = reps, pressure, poise, rapid decisionmaking, precise shooting.
