“For me there’s nothing more important than protecting kids from professional environments: The injuries, the pressure, the hard work, that’s not for kids. The work of a child is PLAY, exploring their own unique potential....”

Elite Children, there is no such thing!
1st we need to accept as a sporting parent/coach is that a child is NOT an elite junior athlete. No elite 10y/o basketballer. No high performance 11y/o soccer player. No elite 9y/o tennis player!
They're children!⤵️

Key word here is FOLLOW. Instructions are fine if they have space for a Learners exploration and expression, its when the ‘How’ is limited to following what’s expected and demonstrated that stifles learning.
“We’re terrible at talent identification and we should avoid it as long as possible. We need to get comfortable with the fact that when we do these early selections, most of the time they’re wrong and most of the time they’re biased.” @bakerjyorku
If you let kids just get on and play, it will be chaos, it will be unsafe…..
Have we lost touch with what play is & lost faith in kids to be capable of organising their own play?
We can kickstart free play. Just open your pitches to all!
Be the change you want to see. ❤️⚽️
If you're a parent or carer at youth football shouting instructions incessantly to your children then know this:
They hate it
It affects their enjoyment
It inhibits their development
Now you can make an informed choice. Boost your own ego or support your own child.
@deewhock Thankyou Sir Hock, School system is a classic example. Innate wisdom would be to realise the powerful dynamics of Play for child (and adult) development. But we’d rather them be able to sit down, be quiet and recite time tables and regurgitate ‘knowledge’.
Partner Striker Ball! A combo game of striker ball, 4 square, and Gaga ball. I saw this game at a @KellerISD PD training. Partners work to protect their goal. If scored on, rotate out. Their is a king goal like 4square. My 3-5th graders LOVED this! 👏🏼
