During the war, the more overt forms of oppression were common. Now they are sporadic but a more insidious war by other means is taking place whose ultimate goal is to reduce Tamils to a minority in their own homeland, thereby reducing their political representation. Low birth rates, Tamil emigration, intermarriages and conversion to Buddhism all benefit this goal.
