Assalam u Alaikum,
Saad was presented before the Anti-Terrorism Court today. He is in good spirits and when I told him about the massive social media support and voices raised for him, he was deeply humbled.
The CTD and prosecution had nothing further to present, and he has now been sent on judicial remand.
Saad had no issues with his legs before, but at the time of his court appearance, he was limping and experiencing severe pain in his foot, which raises suspicion of torture by CTD officials. There were also visible injury marks on Saad’s left arm.
This is no longer just about Saad. It is about institutional overreach, abuse of power, and corruption.
We will pursue this bogus and fraudulent case to its logical conclusion. Saad’s ordeal must become a source of hope for everyone who has faced abuse at the hands of the system.
Saad, our family, and I are deeply grateful for all the support and encouragement.
The fight will continue.

To civil society, journalists, and state authorities:
We are writing as friends and colleagues of Mohammad Saad, seeking his immediate and lawful release.
At approximately 3:30 AM this Monday, 12–13 masked men forcibly entered his home and took him away without presenting any warrant or lawful authority. This constitutes an unlawful deprivation of liberty and a clear breach of due process.
Only after subsequent legal pressure was an FIR registered on grounds that appear arbitrary and unfounded, raising serious concerns of post facto justification of an already unlawful detention.
Saad is a journalist, researcher, and Political Science scholar whose work engages with complex political and strategic subjects. He has also worked with state institutions when called upon, after being vetted and cleared, contributing in areas aligned with national interest.
His detention by personnel within CTD represents a serious overreach of authority and undermines constitutional safeguards, including protection against arbitrary arrest and the sanctity of the home.
We call on all responsible authorities to ensure due process, review the legality of his detention, and facilitate his immediate and safe release.

Just a couple of days ago, he messaged me for an interview regarding the 'volatile situation' in West Asia. Now, he has been charged with distributing banned literature at 3 am outside a mosque, while his family says he was illegally abducted from his house.
This isn't the first case; the stories I have heard about the state of lawlessness are truly horrific. Over the past several years, Pakistan has witnessed a troubling rise in lawlessness that goes beyond isolated incidents of disorder but reflects a deeper structural decline.
With civil liberties steadily and systematically eroding, people are facing unprecedented restrictions on freedom of expression, increasing limitations on meaningful political participation, and there has been a rapidly shrinking space for independent and critical thought.
When lawlessness coexists with institutional fragility, it creates conditions where power can be exercised with limited oversight, further deepening public distrust.
The story of media censorship to unconstitutional overreach, complemented by institutional decay, would always remain the lead story.
Last week, a citizen got arrested over humorously criticising 'traffic restrictions' placed due to 'Islamabad Talks'.

Everyone agrees that we have many constraints for tech and business growth in Pakistan.
I often write these things, and it spreads too fast.
All of us amplify negative things.
At the same time, every day, I’m building something, shipping work, training people, mentoring teams, and figuring out how to operate within this environment. I advise something to businesses and youth. No one listens to or discusses it.
I'm even building for international markets while sitting here in Pakistan. That side rarely gets amplified. I’m not alone doing it. Thousands of entrepreneurs, activists, and academics are doing something to navigate or fix the system here.
Stay in Pakistan or leave. Your choice. Do what works for you. But do something real. We’ve become very good at discussing the system. We need to get equally serious about dreaming big, developing our skillset, fighting for rights, or building businesses for global markets.
Thank you Capital development authority Islamabad. @CDAthecapital@dcislamabad
The care you have shown for the citizens of islamabad is phenomenal .
Not only did you place bricks around the manhole , but you also placed a danda inside as an alert for us.
Thank you once again...!
