@NCanagarajah@uniofleicester@MailOnline the Daily Mail spends years (decades, even) demonising immigrants, fomenting xenophobia at every turn.
Vice-chancellor says: the Daily Mail loves us and I love the Daily Mail!
@UniversitiesUK You'd think a 'manifesto' for universities would have something to say about STAFF -- the people who actually do the teaching and research that lead to the outcomes described.
You'd think we'd at least be mentioned, surely.
You'd be wrong.
Have you ever wondered if the peer review process for journals is sometimes corrupt?
I've now seen it with my own eyes: an editor conspiring to 'fix' a + manuscript outcome for a former PhD student, by engaging cooperative/friendly reviewers.
Sometimes it's not just managers...
UK unis would be much better off if the VCs were given the respect they deserve - which is zero.
Unfortunately, they survive on threats, intimidation, and an authoritarian culture of silence that has watched unis be 'managed' into oblivion.
If you are a USS member:
Your annual pension on retirement goes up a ton
Your net (take home) salary goes up a bit
Your employer has just saved a ton of money
This is a really good day
My university is decrepit in body and soul.
We're told there's no RAAC.
So, the concrete isn't aerated. But the brains of the senior leadership team most certainly are.
Where are the VCs who understand what this sort of sh!t is doing to relations with their staff?
I have moved beyond 'not caring'. My impulse now is to seek to damage & undermine my institution wherever I can get away with it.
Hey Vice-Chancellor! I’m done with you. You won’t see it – I’ll hide it as needed – but I’m done. I’ve spent years doing my job better than I have to. No more. I’m going to do what works for me – because you’ve made it perfectly clear that 1/8 @ussbriefs @uwankings @ucu
@PeterAr18228396@HullLecturer@sstroschein2 It's the anti-Midas touch: get too close and you'll only end up smelling as bad as they do. (Metaphorically speaking, of course)
The most useful thing by far I've read relevant to the MAB and punitive deductions is the government guidance below. I don't think I've seen an example of an employer threatening deductions for partial performance who has fully complied. Share! #ucuRISING https://t.co/nnpt9k29z6
100%: nasty and proud
50%: nasty is the new spineless
25%: upholding traditional standards of nasty
20%: we're the OU, our nastiness is complicated
0%: COMRADES
60 and 80%: confound your enemies by making your every pronouncement look like a typo

The union can't do anything about it. It seems no-one can.
As in the past, I really don't give a toss about my own uni any more; all good will is gone. I've perfected the skill of pretending. Still, deeply depressing.
As someone at top of pay threshold, I'm facing a 5% PAY CUT. I don't imagine that further strikes will help. I'm just going to get screwed. The sector is awash with surplus cash, but there's so much inequality that my mediocre uni 'can't afford' an increase that matches CoL.
