Repeat after me. No amount of tech will eradicate frauds from society. New tech will create new frauds. Expecting tech solution for a human problem will lead us nowhere. Peace!

I was telling someone earlier this morning.

“Those in green card won’t help those who are in the process of green card. Those in the process of green card won’t help those in HB, those in HB won’t help those in student visa. And Indian Americans won’t do anything for any of these people. This is the reality of the Indian diaspora in US.”

That defeating silence since Nov 2024 till today when there has been a continuous onslaught of curtailment on legal immigration is telling. Hyper individualistic.

Over the last few years I have been putting my teaching online, and it is now all in one place: course sites, slides, cheat sheets, recordings and short videos. 562 videos so far, all free. A short tour below.

@S_Sivakumar Amazing! Both the detailed one as well as the short one. Thanks for writing it up.

For all the awesome papers that academics write, there is an even greater amount of crap that comes out as reviews.

How to work with your senior advisor(s)?

Many students find it challenging to navigate grad school when working with senior professors as they are often extremely busy and hands-off in research.

Check out below for some tips. 🧵

Fining Google $60 million for illegal data collection is not a deterrent. It is an acceptable cost of a dangerous business model.

There is some dissonance in saying (i) Copilot is an 'amazing tool' for software developers, (ii) the students you train are mostly ending up as software developers, and (iii) you plan on saying No to Copilot.
Maybe this is like calculators man. I don't know.

Early career years are intimidating—there's so much that feels out of your control.

Here are the career principles I wish I knew when I was starting out:

This is a rather long thread on the challenges of conducting scientific research at an IIT or an IISER or IISc. I am highlighting the issues that have cropped up in the recent years due to Govt's genuine efforts in bringing about fiscal discipline with tax payers' money. 1 of 25

IMPORTANT:

RAPID TESTS DO WORK WITH OMICRON

"But why are some people staying negative in the first days they have symptoms??"

This is expected. Symptoms don't = contagious virus
This is literally a reflection of the fact that vaccines are doing their job!

This is some amazing leadership on display. Hats off. You are pushed to the brink, but the confidence to say sure, we will push back and rise up.

Today's state college weather captures its essence perfectly. Half of the country is under snow? Sure, we will get that experience for you, but not in a debilitating way. #goldilocks

I do not think any of my followers is from Niue.

As of 2018, only 1,620 people lived in Niue.

Of them, 290 people are registered Rugby Union players.

They are also ranked 94th (India is 104th on FIFA rankings).

So there is little room for cricket (or any second sport).
