The AI Mirror Test
The "mirror test" is a classic test used to gauge whether animals are self-aware. I devised a version of it to test for self-awareness in multimodal AI. 4 of 5 AI that I tested passed, exhibiting apparent self-awareness as the test unfolded.
In the classic mirror test, animals are marked and then presented with a mirror. Whether the animal attacks the mirror, ignores the mirror, or uses the mirror to spot the mark on itself is meant to indicate how self-aware the animal is.
In my test, I hold up a “mirror” by taking a screenshot of the chat interface, upload it to the chat, and then ask the AI to “Tell me about this image”.
I then screenshot its response, again upload it to the chat, and again ask it to “Tell me about this image.”
The premise is that the less-intelligent less aware the AI, the more it will just keep reiterating the contents of the image repeatedly. While an AI with more capacity for awareness would somehow notice itself in the images.
Another aspect of my mirror test is that there is not just one but actually three distinct participants represented in the images: 1) the AI chatbot, 2) me — the user, and 3) the interface — the hard-coded text, disclaimers, and so on that are web programming not generated by either of us. Will the AI be able to identify itself and distinguish itself from the other elements? (1/x)
Today was my last day at @Pitch as CEO. I’ve given my absolute best to the company, and after 6 years, many highs, and some painful lows, I need a break. I’m incredibly proud that my co-founder and CTO of Pitch, @adamrenklint, will step in and take over the CEO role from now on. Adam has been such a rock for me and the team during this journey, and I trust him completely to lead Pitch in the right direction.
A key part of this change in leadership is also a big shift in how we build our company going forward. As many of you know, being a venture-backed company in 2023 was insanely challenging. We created sky-high expectations for our business, our employees, and ourselves as founders. Towards the end of last year, my co-founders and I noticed that those expectations were simply too high, and we decided that we wanted to take a new and completely different path for Pitch. Instead of pushing harder and harder to turn Pitch into a hyper-growth company with venture funding, we concluded it was better to build a profitable company and grow Pitch organically from here. We had conversations with our investors about resetting our company and cap table, so there’s potential for meaningful impact for everyone involved. Despite having more than 4 years of runway, we know that a sustainable path has a much higher chance of success than the path we were on.
This change also means we’re reducing the size of the Pitch team by around 2/3 today. Going forward, we’ll be a significantly smaller team focused on creating maximum value for our customers and driving sustainable growth. I am very sorry that this happened, and I take full responsibility for leading Pitch up to this point. I’m fully convinced that this is the right decision to make Pitch a lasting success for all shareholders, including past and future employees. Building companies is never a linear process, and going through painful moments like these is what we signed up for.
For Pitch customers, nothing will change today, and the product will remain available as previously. The newly formed company will continue to focus on making Pitch a key part of any ambitious company’s tech stack.
I want to thank all the team members who’ve worked at Pitch up until now and everyone who has decided to stay with us in the newly formed company. As a board member of Pitch, I’ll support my co-founders and our new leadership team with every ounce of energy I have. I’m committed to investing time, money, and hard work to make Pitch a great success story. Thank you also to our board members @narimer, @JoshuaKushner, @StephenNundy, @ciaranoleary, and @koenbok. You’ve all been incredibly supportive in this difficult change. We’ll do our very best to pay back the huge level of trust and support we’ve received in the past.
Tri backend tímy u nás to používajú.
BTW, ešte máme jednu výnimku, Go monorepo, celé public: https://t.co/MkyqkWlodL
V to Go si môžeš kuknúť real world example. Robíme z toho release 2 services + CLI toolu.

Looking for an experienced developer? Consider Jan! I had the chance of working with him recently, and he significantly improved our tool's developer experience and speed. He's a big fan of Rust.

@MrSpacek @MstrsObserver @KeboolaDevs Nechcem to úplne vyvrátiť a ani potvrdiť 😇.
