The December 2021 warmth in Houston continues to amaze me when thinking of its context historically. Here are a couple of different ways to see the average monthly temperature at Houston/Hobby from 1930-2021. Both graphs show how much of an outlier 2021 really was. #houwx
@NWSHouston The overnight lows are equally as impressive. Houston/Hobby has an average low of 60F so far in 2021, ~+5F higher than years with higher than normal low temps! No other year is really in between making this year quite the outlier.
@mattlanza Interesting Christmas Day comparisons back to 1940 (KHOU) and what's forecasted for tomorrow. Gunning for high and low temp thresholds well out of normal territory and pushing daily record.
@NWSHouston Interesting to see how anomalous this is graphically. This data is from Hobby and valid for every year through Dec 22. Looks like this trend will hold with the current forecast too through end of year.
The start of this December has been quite anomalous in Houston compared to the last 50 years. 6 record high temperatures so far and overnight lows well warmer than normal. #houwx

The threat for Excessive Heavy Rain will continue across much of SE TX today. Updated guidance has the southern third of the area under a HIGH RISK for excessive rain as #TSNicholas approaches. #GLSwx#HOUwx#TXwx
Nicholas is expected to make landfall later today along the Texas Gulf Coast bringing widespread rain and the risk for considerable flash flooding, especially in urban areas. Note the amounts vary significantly across a small distance and to remain prepared and weather aware.
Today marks the 121th anniversary of "The Great Storm of 1900", a Category 4 hurricane which destroyed Galveston Island. This powerful hurricane took away thousands of people making it the deadliest natural disaster in US history. #glswx#houwx#txwx

@dgoldwx2112 Really enjoyed your write up. Nicely done. 2011 (image) also comes in mind and seems to be similar to the other events you outline. This year also looked very concentrated in the central US maybe caused by the -NAO and western ridge funneling the arctic air south.
