A Meeting With Maulana Tariq Jamil

Many years ago, during the annual Tableeghi Ijtima in Barikot, Swat, Maulana Tariq Jamil was staying at my cousin’s house, and I was very keen to meet him. I went there and had the opportunity to spend some time with him. I found him to be an extremely humble and sincere man — someone who had devoted his entire life to Deen, Dawah, and Tableegh.

He asked me what I did, and I told him I was an arthritis doctor. He replied that there was no treatment for arthritis, and I explained that there are now many advanced treatments and that we manage arthritis very effectively these days.

He then asked where I worked, and I told him I was working in Newcastle, England. He immediately said, “When you go back, meet Zafar.” I could sense how deeply he cared about connecting people for the sake of Imaan and Deen.

When I returned to Newcastle and inquired about Zafar, to my surprise he told me that Maulana Saab had already informed him about me and asked him to meet me. I was amazed. How could a person who meets thousands upon thousands of people remember such a brief interaction and then follow it up from another country?

That moment left a deep impression on me. I felt that this was a man who genuinely carried Deen and Dawah in his heart and soul, inside and out.

It is truly painful to see how easily people tarnish the character of individuals who have devoted their entire lives to serving Deen. These days, nobody is spared — not politicians, not artists, not singers, not businessmen, not scholars, not the rich or poor, not the young or old, not men or women.

For heaven’s sake, sometimes people really should mind their own business.

تعلیم عورت کا بنیادی حق اور ایک اسلامی ریاست کا فرض ہے، لیکن اسے depopulation drive کے طور پر استعمال نہیں کیا جا سکتا۔
