i agree that you can not fix culture with state violence. i do not agree that the issue of crime is a cuktural one and i think the discussion you want to have is quite far from the original post here, which was 'a country should leave a human rights convention treaty because immigrants are criminals' (paraphrasing a bit).
my question is simply on the connection between immigrant=criminal which is just not supported by data i am seeing π€·
@nickbuildsapps i do, yea... actually a few so i suppose that answers the original question in a way.
i am (mainly) working on a project in the micropayment space. i'll link the landing page here if i get that out any time soon.
if the issue is that people who are committing crime are not stopping to commit crime, it suggest that the legal system has simply failed, no?!
how is saying 'treat criminals that break the law perhaps more harshly' violating anyones right?!
are you saying that if a crime happens you only care if an immigrant committed it because birth citizens should be able to do whatever to not have 'their rights violated'?
ALL asylum applications are most definitely not based on lies, but i am not _that_ easy to rage bait, so lets leave that be...
tell me, how does changing LEGAL requirements for immigration prevent ILLEGAL immigration? or are you just saying immigration should never be welcome period???
on a individual country level you might be correct. illegal immigration into the union overall too is virtually non-existent.
this all is a pretty complex issue. i get the cultural angle and all that, but many european economies are dependant on immigration, and as with most things in life, you just can not choose only the positive factors. can't have your cake and eat it too...
fair enough, but then i think it is fair to assume that a majority of immigrants are western immigrants, no?! in european countries i mean.
and again, i am not saying criminal behavior - from an immigrant or otherwise - is to be tolerated.
OECD and JRC (via Eurostat) studies seem to agree that immigrants on a whole help the host country at least economically. so the link or leap of immigration=crime is just not clear to me.
are there criminals who should not be allowed to be an immigrant to a country? absolutely! but for every one of those there are numerous non-criminals, and if we are talking about interpretation of human rights (i suppose that was the original reference) we should be considering a larger data set than those who make negative headlines, no?
it felt right for my first post after coming back here to be the same as the original first tweet i sent back in 2009 or so.
i feel like i should have never left, but also maybe i had to leave to appreciate coming back. anyway - glad to be here again.
@Joshua_WD and i should add, that comment is not to detract from the actual service at all. i am just not on a mac, so i can not speak to that - but given what i am reading there i am sure it is quite great as well.
@joakimgrr that is a great observation - and it matters for reasons that may not be immediately obvious... (sorry, i had to)
on a serious note, i get the concern but i think as long as you recognise the language as 'wrong' you won't adopt it. rest easy friend, i'll also tell you if you do.
