After being a therapist for a few years and also being in my own therapy, I take for granted that my words likely have layers of meaning, including unintended/unconscious. But I meet many people who insist their words be taken at face value and nothing more, (1/2)
(2/2) and seem to genuinely believe there is nothing beyond or below the literal words spoken. In therapy I have ways of confronting that, but I don’t know how to challenge it in my personal life.
