I met a very friendly Berlin lady in a Berlin cafe today. She was in her 60s (?), we talked a bit about everything, she was extremely nice and cultivated, and than she said, she is totally for Scholz, and supports his Ukraine policy 100%.

I asked her why.

She answered, she was afraid of escalation, if Taurus would be delivered. That she did not trust Zelensky. And that Ukraine needed to find a compromise, and to leave Crimea to Russia, because "Willy Brandt has given territories to Poland, and it was a right move". She said, that suffering on the front must be stopped.

Well. As I mentioned already, she was very nice and friendly, and I thought, it would be reasonable to calmly approach her arguments.

I said, that Taurus can be easily geo-fenced, so Taurus missiles cannot reach Russia. And that Ukrainians never broke their promise not to use Western weapons on Russia. And that one does not need to trust Zelensky 100%, but just know, that Ukraine depends on Germany arms, and it is not in Ukriane's interests to break promise.

Than I said, that Germany gave territories to Poland because Germany was an aggressor in WW2, and Ukraine is not. She countered: "but the peace!" I answered: Ukraine let Russia de facto holding Crimea 2014-2022 - no attempt to liberate it was undertaken. It did not help. Russia attacked Ukraine anyway. Ukraine had dozens of cease fire agreements with Russia, each one was broken. (We were sitting outside, and I did not elaborate further on the question "deals with Putin").

Well, she asked, how should this war be ended?

How should it be enden, or how can it be ended? - I asked her. It should be ended with Russia leaving Ukraine, defeated (she smiled). If we had delivered all weapons we delivered in 2023 - but in 2022, it would have been the case already.

Ok, she said, but this cannot be re-done now, we are in year 2024.

Well, I continued: if Germany would deliver more weapons now, including more air defense, and missiles; if Germany would cut Russia from weapons supplies from Iran and North Korea (who have no fear of "escalation" and Russia using their missiles against Ukraine); if Germany would stop her companies from selling sanctioned goods to Russia via Kazakhstan, Armenia, Georgia, Türkiye... This would already be a huge impact. Ukraine will do the rest.

She promised to think about it.
