Decided to explore some old communities that existed before suburbanization, so the first is Sideburn. Originally an agricultural settlement of freed slaves just south of Fairfax, development began in the 1970s and stopped being referred to as Sideburn by about 1990.

Today, Braddock District Supervisor James Walkinshaw received an overwhelming victory in the VA-11 special election. This is another Democratic overperformance from Harris in 2024. VA-11 is probably more impacted by cuts to the federal workforce than any other district in the US.

Yesterday, Braddock Dist. Supervisor James Walkinshaw easily cleared the Dem field for VA-11's special election. With estimated boundaries around the voting places, I mapped how voting went on Saturday. Walkinshaw faced hardly any opposition east of the Fairfax County Parkway.
