@robgamracy Doesn’t mean much. Halttunen scored at will there but he’s been the same guy he was back in Finland with small hope to get NHL games. I’ll be shocked if Piiparinen bucks the trend and becomes something he would never be if he stayed and competed for his minutes in Finland.

@mcclusk No I didn’t. He like every Finn is and always has been underrated. It’s a fact that he’s extremely skilled offensively and if he wasn’t as committed to playing D and thinking of the team he’d easily break 100 points and it’s not out of question to see 110-120 points.

@NHLJackManning And tell me more than 2 (UPL and Määttä) who became anything of note in the NHL by going the Canadian junior route? It’s simply not a place where Finns develop well, more often than not they look the exact same as they did in Finland. It’s warranted to be skeptical of this move

@NHLJackManning Do you actually think he’d only get 6 minutes a night for the whole season? He played one Liiga game, the others were Champions league games and the team has a new coach (one of the best outside the NHL) who said he’d get minutes throughout the season, patience was needed

@mzvgk His pro team is a dynasty, only super talented teenagers have got big roles in the last 10+ years (Barkov and Laine) and they’re focused on winning, not developing players for the NHL for free. Pro teams do not give out free minutes to teenagers.

@Chens89 As someone who’s watched him outperform his European counterparts in h2h games for 2 seasons now, it just doesn’t make sense how he’s so disrespected while the guys he’s looked much better than are hyped to the moon. Even against Canada at the Hlinka he was excellent

@Chens89 Pretty weird how different the way pre season games are viewed in NA, especially with players who’ve come from different cultures, countries and leagues. At the Hlinka which is very much valued by scouts he was excellent like he has always been internationally.

@Rojjter @NHLJackManning He’d have played 15+ minutes a night on some of the worse teams last season already, likely got more points (which also is a hilarious thing to point out since young dmen in Liiga should never be judged by points) but he played at most 10 minutes if that on average last season .

@Rojjter @NHLJackManning I mean the fact he gets benched for the smallest mistakes because he’s the youngest player is unfair. It happened last season and has happened this season too. Others play worse but they’re already full time pro’s so they can make mistakes as much as they want.
