What connects our historical & cultural experiences? How do we overcome colonial traumas and reclaim dignity?
David was an optimist. Idealism should be our compass and pragmatism the map.
Thank you @pressgazette for letting us accept his award for 'Public Service Journalism' on his behalf, and for letting me say a few words.
His trophy sits proudly on his desk.

Thank you @EditorsUK for naming @Telegraph's 'Ukraine: The Latest' their 'Podcast of the Year.'
It was a happy but bittersweet moment, as @DomNicholls and I felt someone was missing up there on stage.
David, wherever you are: this one's for you.
David Knowles’s corner appeared at @PenUkraine space in Kyiv. We frequently speak about David before our events, sharing his story with Ukrainian guests and foreign delegates alike. David was a reliable friend and talented journalist. We miss you deeply, @djknowles22 💔
In the PEN Ukraine space in Kyiv, a new corner has been dedicated to our friend, British journalist and founder of Ukraine: The Latest, David Knowles.
On September 8, 2024, David Knowles passed away at the age of 32 due to cardiac arrest.
David would have been deeply touched by the thousands of messages @Telegraph has received since his passing, from all around the world.
On Thursday we say goodbye.
His funeral will livestreamed so all can join, wherever you are. It begins at 11:15 BST:

A candle is burning for David at the Journalists’ Altar in St Bride's church on Fleet Street, London. Due to its location, @stbrideschurch has long been associated with journalists and the media profession. It's a beautiful place and open to the public from 8am-5pm.
David Knowles, journalist who helped make Telegraph podcast Ukraine: The Latest a runaway success

The interview that was never meant to be seen, I only publish this so you can hear the voice of @djknowles22 once more, have cut most of my crappy responses to his most excellent questions.
You were forever the professional David.
R.I.P.
Our first Twitter dialogue was in April 2022. Then we met several times in Kyiv and were mostly all the time in touch during these 2,5 years. I scrolled today all our talks and listened to all the audios. Can’t and don’t want to believe, my friend @djknowles22
It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of our colleague, David Knowles.
David was a talented journalist and a much-loved friend and a colleague. He will be greatly missed.
A year has passed since we lost our colleague and dear friend, Victoria Amelina. She was a writer and member of PEN Ukraine, documenting Russian war crimes with Truth Hounds. On July 1, 2023, she died in a hospital from injuries sustained in a Russian attack on Kramatorsk.
