I was watching an interview with Paul Masvidal from the band Cynic once, and he explained that in the early 90s metal was pretty much one singular thing to most people in the industry, and so these bands in diverse sub-genres had to tour together. Cynic opened for Slayer one summer and got booed off the stage every night.

That’s how this edit and GG in general felt. You had these different personalities and groups but were for a brief time conglomerates into a loose culture war affinity in the minds of people who knew about it at the time. And now most of these people grew to hate each other over the years.
