This study investigated the long-term association between ejaculation frequency and prostate cancer risk in a cohort of over 31,000 men. Researchers found a significant inverse relationship, with men reporting higher ejaculation frequencies (21 or more times per month) at ages 20-29 and 40-49 having a reduced risk of prostate cancer compared to those with lower frequencies (4-7 times per month). This association remained consistent even when accounting for prostate-specific antigen (PSA) screening and was primarily observed for low-risk prostate cancer.

Findings suggest that more frequent ejaculation throughout adulthood may play a beneficial role in reducing prostate cancer incidence.

Uncomfortable but honest question for my fellow doctors:

How do you feel about patients requesting communication/interpretation of results through chart messaging? I'm talking about things that require more than a very brief analysis?

My feeling is that when our analysis is in the context of a visit (virtual or in person), we get compensated for our time and expertise, just like other professions. As it should.

Has anyone taken a hard line on this? Am I being too callous?

This study assessed the efficacy and safety of MRI-based prostate cancer screening in men aged 50 to 60, comparing MRI-targeted biopsy with systematic biopsy.

Men with elevated PSA levels underwent MRI and were randomly assigned to either systematic biopsy or MRI-targeted biopsy groups. After a median follow-up of 3.9 years, MRI-targeted biopsy detected fewer clinically insignificant cancers compared to systematic biopsy (2.8% vs. 4.5%), with a 57% lower risk of overdiagnosis. The detection rates for clinically significant cancers and high-risk cancers were similar between the groups, with few adverse events reported.

The findings suggest that MRI-targeted biopsy reduces unnecessary prostate cancer diagnoses without significantly increasing the risk of missing advanced cancers.
