His parents wanted him to become a doctor or an IAS officer.
Instead, their son from Bhubaneswar went on to build a unicorn company valued at $4 billion.
This is the story of Amrit Acharya, CEO & Co-Founder of Zetwerk.
Born in Kataka and raised in Bhubaneswar, Amrit grew up in a middle-class Odia family.
His father worked in insurance. His mother worked with an NGO.
Entrepreneurship wasn’t the plan.
He made it to IIT Madras, joined ITC, and at 21–22, got his first real exposure to manufacturing while helping build a new factory.
That experience stayed with him.
McKinsey came next.
Then he quit his job and returned to India to build a startup.
That startup was Zetwerk - a tech-led manufacturing marketplace connecting large companies with a vast network of SMEs and manufacturing partners.
What began as a software idea became a manufacturing powerhouse.
In FY26, Zetwerk’s operating revenue crossed Rs 15,913 crore - up 40.4% from FY25.
The company now plans to raise at least $500 million through an IPO, targeting a valuation of approximately $5 billion.
From a middle-class family in Bhubaneswar to building one of India’s biggest manufacturing startups.
What a journey.
NIELIT Patna is going to conduct the Product Assembly Assistant (Solar-LED) course. The last date to apply online is 12th Oct 2026.
