2003 - Failed in main subjects in 12th half early exam , ran from home fearing father's punishment , ran to Chennai . Came back home after 2 months .

I was just 18 - every single one around me called " odipona payyan " ( the guy who ran away ) , even my close relatives used to make fun infront of mother . Somehow , studied 12th one more time and passed it .

Got to college and again , 2 arrears - never managed to complete it and again was labelled a failure . Every class mate in college got settled and I fell in to a deep depression .

Every stage of life , to be precise for every 4 years - there was one major failure waiting . Used to think about suicide a million times - but always made sure I delayed it .

Became YouTube famous , personal life got in to a turmoil , lost our home to debt and again there was utter failure .

But here I'm - with all those failures and imperfections - I now run a business which employs atleast 30 people on a weekly basis and about to open our first physical shop . I don't know whether this will continue for ever - but whatever has happened so far related to the business , extremely happy about it .

The moral is simple - just take this life as a game , failure or success - just treat it the same way , be ready to lose everything anytime in life so that it will be easy for you to get going again .

I have not acheived anything substantial in life - but trust me , this persistence has increased the calmness in heart and mind many folds !

Persist no matter what ! Just live without too many calculations about life !

100 years from now - they won't even know where your grave was!

Wanted to write this thread , as it will be useful for many .

Learning so much from building a home for parents , want to share whatever knowledge I have gained so far . It might help you build a proper home as it is going to be a long lasting investment for you and family !

1. Hire an architect . Many adviced me to just go with an experienced mason so that I will be able to save few lakhs in the form of architect fee . But through reading and friends learned that a mason can build a building , only an architect can build you the Home that is in your imagination. Also hire an architect who picks up the phone whenever u call , he should enjoy building your building rather than viewing it as another money making project . Do not be rigid with them , allow them to share their ideas and then present your ideas , also be very honest about your budget so that they will ensure it can be acheived via every stage of the building .

2. Do soil test , yes it will cost you 25 - 30k , but the test will ensure that your structure lasts for atleast 50 years , with soil test - we saved a lot in the form of steel bars for pillars , our soil had lot of strength , so we dug the site only less for the pillar pit . the architect ensured that we saved atleast 20% in the form of steel bars for the pillars through the soil test .

3. Never compromise on the quality of the steel bar . Please do your own research while buying it - we went with JSW , many go with Tata Steel . But only a very few have 550 tensile strength as they advertise . If u compromise on steel bar , the building will definitely crack after 10 years .

4. Go with bricks if it is financially possible . There are options like fly ash , hollow blocks , full blocks etc . But the red bricks always beats them handsdown .

While choosing bricks , make sure the supplier has atleast 30 years experience , when u soak the brick over night , take it out and hit it on the ground - a good brick will not break , or just will break only in the corners . If it breaks in to pieces , you have selected a wrong brand . Bricks ensure the quality of the wall , ensure that you are buying the best .

5 . Concrete for the basement , instead of manually mixing it , go for ready mix concrete from a reputed supplier . Go with m25 grade for filling the pillar pit and you can go with m20 grade for the rest . More the cement in the mix , more the grade . Also ensure you select the right RMC guy , some bogus guys do not do the mix properly, ensure that they are in the business for atleast 20 years.

6. M sand - you got to enquire with friends to know the right supplier . A good quality M sand is washed properly and only a proper mason can identify its quality , make sure you get the right guy to supply . Also while building the walls with m sand - regular wetting of the walls just happen because more the curing done to the walls - more will be its strength . Ensure that your walls are drenched atleast 3 times a day to ensure proper strength .

6 . Cement - ultra tech is fantastic , we went with ramco supercrete . There are many other worthy manufacturers as well . Take the advice of the architect before purchasing .

7. The structure is all that matters , once you get the structure right - everything else is a fill up and can be updated anytime u wish . So never ever compromise on the structure .
