@MarkJCarney@sunn_time There are thousands of vacant condos in Vancouver. Many people in affordable apartments and suites in houses will be demovicted with no supports while the new housing will be smaller and unaffordable. This will be great for developers, investors and the City of Vancouver. 😥
Yet so many MDs & RNs do not believe in Infection Associated Chronic Conditions & Illnesses or Post Acute Infection Syndrome: ME, Long COVID, chronic Lyme disease, etc.
Case in point, public health stops counting severe Covid outcomes after 30 days post (re)infection.
As a psychologist, what concerns me is that SARS-CoV-2 reinfections in perpetuity are damaging children (cognitive dysfunction, worsening health, bereavement, lower achievement). It's too painful for people to own that, so they'll blame tech & give away privacy in the process.
🎉 A major win!
At the @OurOceanOOC in Kenya today, 16 nations signed a declaration to advance fisheries transparency and combat illegal fishing.
We're excited to work with these countries and our partners to drive meaningful reforms that benefit oceans & coastal communities. https://t.co/jYMUn0deFr
Just a reminder, the "best" studies suggesting nasal sprays prevent COVlD are completely unserious.
This one violated the JAMA network standards for trial outcome analysis by analyzing missing data improperly. The findings are null in more valid analyses.
Wee Fergus still isn't strong enough to walk all the way to his grassy enclosure. To keep him from over-using his tendons (as they're still quite lax) the vets give him a ride. He enjoys this as much as he does the sunshine and green grass with his new mom, Mouse.
All Premiers and Public Health officials were given a 15 slide presentation from the Federal Govt & were provided monthly updates on the long term effects and harms of #LongCovid infection. They knew in July 2020 but decided not to inform the public. It’s CRIMINAL!
It's hot. Put a dish of water outside today with a few stones in it.
During a heat wave, birds and bees need water as much as food. Honey bees drink it, haul it back to the hive, and use it to help cool the brood.
But bees need a safe place to land. A deep bowl of water can become a trap.
The fix is simple. Fill a shallow dish with pebbles or stones and add water until the tops stay dry. The bees get islands to stand on, and birds get a shallow edge to drink and bathe.
Set it in the shade and dump and refill it every day. Fresh water in the heat, no mosquito problem.
Two minutes, a dish, and a handful of rocks can make the hottest days a little easier for everything sharing your yard.
I get particularly concerned when I see DBT applied to health contexts. A core DBT "skill" is "radical acceptance."
That means having a frank awareness of reality. All therapies emphasize that as a generally useful perspective. However, I see it frequently misapplied to encourage people to tolerate injustice. Often, therapists will warn, oh I would never do that, and then you listen to them for 5 minutes and realize that's exactly what it's doing.
The whole approach was designed for people with severe chronic mental health and interpersonal challenges, so it's troubling the extent to which it has proliferated to so many contexts.
The Office for National Statistics estimates that around 110,000 children in England & Scotland are living with Long Covid.
Friends, if you live in the UK, please help us by contacting your elected representatives. Letter template below! #LongCovidKids
