@Aislingg05 @psyc220 Working in the criminal justice system is an interest of mine for the same reasons! I feel as though our generation will greatly improve the law system with our more inclusive views. Today there are so many unfair verdicts to trials that are clearly due to oppression!
#CD7 @psyc220 (3) they can grow to truly support others and understand that stereotypes and stigmas aren’t facts. I feel like kids are not informed on this enough (esp. in school), so parents should take the time to implement these values in their kids for a more inclusive future
#CD7 @psyc220 (2) develop their views based on their parents and what they grew up learning from their opinions. With that being said, I hope to show my kids the meaning of privilege and educate them on marginalized groups so (2)
#CD7 @psyc220 My main future goal is to become a parent. As someone from a diverse community, I have met tons of people who did not understand privilege and how marginalized groups are oppressed and some that truly did. Now, years later, I realize that people ultimately (1)
@BarbuzzaN @psyc220 Yes… in order to make things right citizens needs to learn how to drop the stigma and accept that everyone deserves equal rights regardless of their origin
#CD6 @psyc220 (2) feeds the oppression and assumes a POC is in a low socioeconomic class bc of factors having to do with their race and personal faults when in reality they are treated unfairly and not granted opportunities to the same extent caucasians are.
@marissahart23 @psyc220 This is so true… not only does this oppress women’s salary, but I feel like this issue also creates the idea of jobs being “feminine or masculine.” Some women don’t pursue the career they want bc of this and most “masculine” jobs are those with higher pay and are considered
#CD6 @psyc220 It is prevalent that classism is often intersected with race in the U.S. Regardless of efforts to create a positive change, a racial pay gap exists. Not only are POC oppressed economically, but the way it is understood by others (1)
@allie_pritz @psyc220 I agree especially as someone who uses ODS services. Not only is it hard to be granted accommodations, but I also think the lack of understanding from professors is just as bad because some profs don’t abide by students accommodations as they should in order to actually help
@jesszoggpsych @psyc220 I agree! I feel like inspiration porn is meant to have good intentions, but overall is most effective towards those who are disabled and their psyche when it comes to their feeling of fitting in with the world around them despite their disability.
#cd5b @psyc220 …disabilities are objectified by trying to help one feel strong, but overall just labeling them as weaker or less fortunate than others. This misconception happens everyday even if someone doesn’t have the intentions to.
#cd5b @psyc220 …supportive, I feel like it can be negatively effective since people have lives and a personality regardless of their disability. The book defines inspiration porn as “objectifying one group of people for the benefit of another.” This is clear because…
#cd5b @psyc220 Disabilities are one of many things that are misleading due to inspiration porn. Disabled individuals are usually seen as someone less fortunate. People who aren’t disabled try to inspire those who are by saying they are heroic or a fighter. Although this is…
#cd5a @psyc220 … do not take it seriously (and the office doesn’t help efficiently) which does not help students disabilities at the end of the day. JMU is a welcoming place, but there are many changes that need to be made in respects to individuals disabilities.
@psyc220 #cd5a … struggled to get from the stadium to the dining hall due to the walk, so i could only imagine how it is for those in wheelchairs or with more serious conditions. I also feel like ODS accommodations get a lot of praise, but i personally feel like professors…
#cd5a @psyc220 JMU is a university that is very supportive and giving, but not at the same time. The most evident barrier for those who are disabled is the elevation around campus and how hard it is to do much unless you can walk a far distance. My father who has a bad hip…
@BPsyc220 @psyc220 You make a great, agreeable point. If people were to take a step out of society's standards and realize everyone's equal humans, it would make the world a lot happier and safer for those who are oppressed for their differences. No one should feel belittled bc of their identity
#CD4 @psyc220 The misconception of feminism being anti-men has a lot to do with the pushback in united support. If everyone educated themselves on the true meaning of feminism, I think we could make a positive change in society's acceptance and dynamic as a whole.
#CD4 @psyc220 Solitary should be built among all identities as it affects all individuals. To actively fight for feminism, we need solitary to unite people and promote equality to end oppression against stereotypical/traditional gender roles and accept everyone for who they are
