I wanted a kick for #ThalapathyVijay’s hero introduction in #Kaththi. When a hero escapes from jail with the horn sound, there’ll be a kick for the audience. The 30-minutes-earlier timeline will establish that it was actually another guy who escaped. They asked the hero, who’s an expert at escaping prison, to help. That’s when we give a twist to the audience the intention of that scene was to let another prisoner get caught in the hero’s place while he too escapes from the police.

We tried to shoot it in a natural location under a bridge in Calcutta, but we couldn’t do the jump scene and run scene there to get a proper introduction. Since it’s a Diwali release for #Vijay sir and to satisfy fans we actually did patchwork in AVM Studios to make sure the introduction was proper.

The map scene in jail worked because of #Anirudh’s music build-up. Above is the map, and below is the hero’s imagination. I had to put that scene there as foreshadowing because I had to use that scene again in the pre-climax. To let the audience connect better, I introduced it in the opening itself.

In the 2nd half, Kathireaan will try to be like Jeevanantham, but he’ll be struggling. When the old people’s emotional dialogue comes, he’ll be thinking, “This is not our pattern.” He realizes we need to attract the media. They must not have water for 3 days. Then, when he asks for the map, the audience will instantly connect that Kathireaan is back.
