Lest anyone think these allegations are new to @WWF, see this brilliant 2013 documentary. Adivasis kicked off land for tiger tourism, shoot-to-kill in Africa, deals with dodgy corps + cozying up to dictators. With 2 excruciating interviews with WWFers.

@justinewanda@ntvkenya@ZeynWandati Soils for the Future. They were also responsible for setting up the huge carbon project in northern Kenya (now run by the so-called Northern Rangelands Trust) exposed in this https://t.co/lBx1hysMRn
@talharris1@patrickgaley True, though Equinor's more recent acquisitions in Brazil, Indonesia, UK, USA, Argentina, Canada and Norway itself have not exactly been a secret.
Guess it's easy to turn a blind eye to global ruin when it's providing half of the country's 'social security' funding...
@patrickgaley Umm, well the Norwegian people gave permission for this every election since... well, whenever.
If you look at the impact of oil revenues on Norway's global climate policy (especially pro-offsetting) the pernicious effect on our planet is even greater than you might think.
Just like any other industry, the aim of conservation corporations is to wipe out the competition in order to extract the maximum value from the underlying asset (in this case, 'nature').
Unraveling the toxic competition for conservation funding in Africa: a barrier to cohesion & trust. Accusations fly between local & international NGOs, while bureaucratic hurdles & unequal distribution of funds hinder progress. Time for collaboration, transparency, & inclusivity!

Did you know many of @UNESCO's World Heritage Sites are war zones for Indigenous people, who are being forcefully evicted from their lands? This happens with the complicity and sometimes even the support of UNESCO.

@CrowtherLab @CanopyRobin @biobartholomew@DaisyDent@l_banin Right, so this seems broadly to echo similar older studies done in the Amazon and Congo Basins.
Would you say this has any implications for climate mitigation strategies that rely on theoretical 'IFM' in tropical forests? Or logging certification schemes, such as FSC?
The recent @CrowtherLab 'trillion trees' paper missed "a few basic facts about the CO2 increase in our atmosphere" - and hence came up with a very misleading assessment of the potential of trees to mitigate climate change.

Excellent documentary exposing #IKEA's role in the destruction of the world's forests, and its greenwashing by the @FSC_IC.
Showing tomorrow on @ARTEfr (in French).

A mega-scam involving ~10% of all voluntary carbon credits is exposed by @oekoinstitut; so-called 'improved forest management'.
Of course, this has been going on for yrs under the noses of @Verra & @AirResources etc.

Not only did oversight company @Verra fail to spot the problems with this C offset project, but also subsequently failed to sanction the auditors which certified it, @RnfrstAlliance & @sa_carbon.
Truly unfit for purpose...

Gabon’s media calls Lee White, “Satan of the Waters and the Forests”, by @reddmonitor https://t.co/48BEjWG5wu Some of White’s conservation measures were unpopular in Gabon. People were evicted when the national parks were created.
The global conservation body @IUCN is causing an ecological disaster in Africa with misguided afforestation schemes, backed by funding from the German government,@BMZ_Climate
Communities, of course, are also being hit hard.

Congo allocates new oil concession covering most of Conkouati Nat. Park.
@TheWCS, the country's biggest 'conservation' organisation, says....absolutely nothing.
Nor do donors such as @EU_Partnerships & @WorldBank, which have paid millions to supposedly protect the area.
