When I joined @PriceofOil 3 years ago, I used to joke that I had found the only internatoonal climate policy job that didn't require going to COP, because fossils would never be a thing there.
Whatever happens next at #COP28, let's remember how far we have come as a movement.
I have come back to #COP28, because we are on the brink of climate disaster & this conference must mark a turning point.
I am here to renew my urgent appeal to leaders:
Recommit to the 1.5°C warming limit.
End the fossil fuel age.
Deliver climate justice.
Make #COP28 count.
Shocking and tragic. @SaleemulHuq was a force to be reckoned with, a true champion for climate justice. Huge loss for the climate community. Was lucky to receive guidance from him as a masters student. We've lots of work to do to carry on his legacy.
Professor Saleemul Huq OBE (1952-2023)
It is with deep sadness that we share news of the passing of Professor Saleemul Huq, an environmental and climate change giant, and senior fellow and dear friend of IIED and many IIED colleagues past and present.

Emerging from my relative Twitter silence to say how deeply, deeply disappointed I am as a SK-grown gal to see such failure of leadership from the SK government.
@PremierScottMoe
Wrong. By any measure: Europe's energy planning is working. Holding it up as an example of failure is simply factually incorrect https://t.co/wQ56nOlHHq
BREAKING: Canada's #Budget2023 commits CAD 21 billion+ to clean electricity—a big win for 🇨🇦's energy transition. 👏
Still needed: stronger climate conditions to ensure 💰 is well spent + safeguards against continued fossil fuel support. 🧵1/4 #cdnpoli https://t.co/hskFKrZNRh

NEW RESEARCH: Canada’s oil sector doesn’t need more public support to compete with the U.S. on subsidies for #CarbonCapture, utilization, and storage (CCUS), according to new analysis from the Institute and @Pembina. #cdnpoli

This is really disappointing. @TheCurrentCBC and @mattgallowaycbc, Canadians deserve accurate, balanced and informed info about pathways to #netzero, rather than a platform for an alliance already spending millions on greenwashing.
Why is @mattgallowaycbc & @TheCurrentCBC giving a platform to the Pathways Alliance to spout misinformation and downright lies?
Public broadcasters shouldn't promote greenwashing
BREAKING📢 @NRCan's interim #SustainableJobs plan is a positive step toward a 🇨🇦 #NetZero transition that seizes economic opportunities & doesn’t leave workers or communities behind.

🇨🇦 can’t delay finding new economic drivers in the face of 📉 oil demand & prices.
1⃣ The buffer from captive 🇺🇸 buyers won’t last
2⃣ 🇨🇦's marginal producers won’t survive post-peak
3⃣ Efficient producers' profits will shrink
