Innocent Children Impacted by Ongoing Armed Conflict

PHNOM PENH – Many children have sought temporary shelter amid ongoing border clashes between Cambodia and Thailand.

Displaced by the violence, families have been forced to leave their homes, with children losing access to schooling and basic necessities.

The Cambodian Education Ministry reports that ongoing border conflicts have impacted 130,000 students and teachers across 14 cities and districts in border provinces as the fighting enters its third day.

The UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) also called for both sides to maintain “maximum control," emphasizing that children must be protected at all times and schools should stay safe spaces for learning.

Cambodia urged the Thai military to immediately cease its lies and stop using false pretexts to justify its illegal encroachment, said Defense Ministry spokesperson Maly Socheata in the second briefing of July 27, calling on the international community to hold Thailand fully accountable for its crimes and demand it end all acts of hostility.

The Thai invaders have become increasingly aggressive, continuing to attack Cambodian civilian areas by dropping bombs and shelling, burning homes in Sangkat Samrong and Samrong City, Oddar Meanchey province and damaging houses in Banteay Ampil District.

Thailand accused Cambodia of starting the war first, but in reality Thailand attacked and killed innocent Cambodian people while thousands more are looking for shelter.
