Eigen Labs and Eigen Foundation posted disclosures on the treatment of investor staking rewards, which we summarize in this tweet, responding to community questions.

Highlights on staking rewards

1) The total EIGEN rewards to EIGEN stakers per year is limited to 1% of total initial EIGEN supply, capping the total amount of annual emissions to EIGEN stakers. This equates to 25% of annual programmatic incentives going to EIGEN staking, while the remaining 75% go to ETH and ETH-equivalent staking. The protocol’s inflationary incentive design is novel and limits investor privilege by ensuring staking rewards accrue very significantly to non-investor users staking ETH and ETH equivalents. This is different from other proof of stake protocols where all rewards go to native token stakers (benefiting investors staking asymmetrically).

2) Investors are allowed to stake both EIGEN and non-EIGEN assets on EigenLayer. Contracts with investors required that investors be permitted to stake EIGEN and that any rewards be unlocked.

3) The maximum all EIGEN stakers can get annually is 1% of total initial EIGEN supply. This is claimable weekly and takes a whole year to get linearly released. This 1% includes all EIGEN stakers, including investors.

4) Eigen Labs and Eigen Foundation each prohibited their teams from participating for at least one year. Again, this is different from several protocols, which allow team staking from day 1.

5) Investors were NOT eligible for stakedrops based on EIGEN staking. Only with future programmatic incentives will they start to accrue rewards for EIGEN staking.
