One thing that many people don’t realize is that Christianity has stuck around for 2,000 years in large part because it is a remarkably coherent system of belief. This is why generations upon generations of the most brilliant Western minds could be quite sincere Christians.

The Bible not only withstands probing questioning, it invites it: you cannot understand it in the manner its authors evidently intended it to be understood *unless* you deeply probe the text. The same is true of theology. While Christian theologians have not all agreed on questions of detail, they have agreed on many broad and important doctrines, which together render the biblical narrative clear, rational, and beautiful.

These are things that are poorly understood by non-Christians. I certainly did not understand them until I read the Bible all the way through, getting my questions answered reasonably well. I was shocked at how coherent and compelling the system was that emerged from this process—when it was merely the Bible properly understood according to orthodox Christian doctrine.
