Some random thoughts on Dana Brown firing:

1. I feel bad for Brown as I always thought he was a good dude and wasn’t set up to succeed by Jim Crane. That said, he had some misses and the org needs an overhaul change in leadership.

2. The Astros best chance at another title was to repeat in 2023, but they blew it at home vs. Rangers in ALCS. Also, practically firing James Click after 2022 was egregious by Crane. No way Click signs Abreu/Montero and he would’ve had a chance to get reinforcements they needed to repeat.

3. The Astros missed their chance at a rebuild during this trade deadline. I don’t blame them for not doing it given they were in postseason spot and Yordan trendy towards an MVP, but with a looming lockout this winter, not sure what they can do for 2027.

4. Jim Crane famously said the window would always be open while he owned the team. He needs to accept the fact that his actions since 2022 has nearly closed it entirely. He’s got to hire a President of Baseball Ops to get back to contention and push both himself and Bagwell out of the room. If the lockout isn’t long, they have either 1) a chance to right the ship and contend or 2) start the delicate process of a short/long rebuild.

5. I hope Joe Espada is personally ok. Like Brown, he seems like a terrific person and I’ve appreciated his professionalism since taking over.

6. James Click and Dusty Baker was a messy arranged marriage, but it kind of worked, no?
