Ontario is leveraging its expertise in nuclear energy to strengthen supply chains and create new jobs here at home.
Earlier this week, our government announced an agreement between @GVHNuclear and @VelanInc that will export made-in-Canada components for European SMRs, and see a new manufacturing facility open in Pickering.
When Ontario committed to building the first Small Modular Reactor in the G7, we did so with a clear objective: leverage our first-mover advantage to fire up Ontario’s supply chain and industrial base.
Proud to announce a new agreement between @gvhnuclear and @VelanInc to export #MadeInCanada components for European SMRs, worth up to $70 million for each reactor.
In addition, we announced that Velan will build a global manufacturing facility in Durham Region.
With an estimated $600 billion in global SMR investment ahead, Ontario’s first-mover leadership is creating 18,000 good-paying jobs for Canadians.
This week, our government signed a new critical minerals agreement with the U.K. to secure supply chains across the Atlantic and attract new investment opportunities to Ontario.

We’re going to drive these numbers even higher - delivering real results for Ontario businesses and workers.
We were honoured to close out our time in Cyprus at the annual Canada Day Reception hosted by Sonya Thissen, Canada’s Ambassador to Greece and High Commissioner to Cyprus, alongside Michael Damianos, Cyprus’ Minister of Energy and Commerce.
