In November 2014, the High Court judges G R Swaminathan and B Pugalendhi inspected several locations along #Thamirabarani riverbanks, where untreated sewage of Tirunelveli Corporation is discharged into the river. Amicus curiae T Arul explained to them that the DEWATS (Decentralized Wastewater Treatment Systems) set up within the river are waste of public money. The judges also expressed dissatisfaction with the existing treatment systems as they failed to prevent sewage from contaminating the river. #SaveThamirabarani
