MMRDA has undertaken a comprehensive review of preparations for this Friday’s Public Transport Day in BKC under the guidance of Additional Metropolitan Commissioner-I Shri Vikram Kumar, IAS.
Encouraged by the enthusiastic response witnessed during the previous edition, we look forward to even greater participation from employees, institutions and visitors across BKC this Friday.
Friday Public Transport Day is a movement for the public and by the public. Participation is entirely voluntary. The initiative is not about compulsion, but about encouraging citizens to make a conscious choice in favour of sustainable mobility. We appeal to those who usually commute by private vehicles to consider using Metro, BEST buses, suburban rail or carpooling while travelling to BKC.
To facilitate smoother commuting, MMRDA is coordinating closely with BEST to enhance bus services and connectivity. Volunteers will also be deployed at Metro stations and key transit points to assist commuters and encourage greater use of public transport.
The encouraging response received so far demonstrates that citizens are willing to contribute towards reducing congestion, lowering emissions and creating a more sustainable urban environment. Together, we can make BKC a model for climate-friendly mobility and a people-led movement that inspires Mumbai and cities across India.

Authorities demolished encroachments outside Kurla railway station’s west exit to ease commuter congestion and improve pedestrian movement in the busy suburban station area.

All this drama of going to 5 foreign countries every month to bring "business" is plain stupid.
Solve basics things, like:-
1) No dogs/animals on roads
2) Proper garbage collection
3) Easy availability of taxis (& fair pricing)
This itself boosts tourism by 15-20% especially foreign tourists. And, helps bring foreign $ (which we desperately need now).
Best part: the budget for 1 foreign visit can be used to solve all above issues in places like Goa.
We won't do it. Because we are "talk" economy.
Not an action economy.
It is common sense to pick low hanging fruits first.
But, who cares about common sense.
BEST bus accident. With Kurla, Bhandup and Dadar incidents sharing similarities, experts question whether driver training, maintenance or vehicle systems are at the heart of the problem #Mumbai
The @MMRDAOfficial wants 2 lakh BKC corporates to leave their cars at home every Friday starting June 12 for Public Transport Day.
Spoiler: It’s going to crash and burn. Here is why:
The last-mile nightmare: BKC is heavily car-centric. Getting off at Bandra/Kurla stations or the Metro is easy; getting from there to your office means surviving chaotic auto-rickshaw lines or waiting 25 mins for an already packed BEST bus.
Monsoon madness: Launching a walking/bus initiative in mid-June? Good luck navigating BKC’s concrete desert with zero shade or rain cover during a Mumbai downpour.
Rules for thee: Let’s be real. The CXOs and senior bosses aren't jumping into overcrowded locals. They'll just move their Friday meetings to Lower Parel or work from home.
Great intent, but unless they flood the streets with hundreds of seamless, high-frequency feeder buses overnight, Fridays in BKC are just going to be an absolute mess.

A tragic accident near Plaza Cinema in Dadar West claimed one life and left three others injured after a BEST bus reportedly lost control and rammed into pedestrians on Monday.
The injured were rushed to Sion Hospital for treatment, Emergency services and local residents responded swiftly to assist the victims.
The Shivaji Park Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash. The incident has once again raised concerns over road safety and pedestrian protection in one of Mumbai’s busiest neighbourhoods.

MMRDA Launches Weekly Public Transport Day in BKC to Promote Sustainable Mobility
Every Friday, BKC will choose public transport. In a first-of-its-kind initiative, the MMRDA, in collaboration with WRI India, has launched the 'BKC Weekly Public Transport Day', encouraging thousands of professionals across India's premier business district to leave their cars behind and travel by Metro, suburban rail, buses and other public transport modes.
Announcing the initiative, Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee, IAS, Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA, called upon MMRDA employees to lead by example by observing Public Transport Day every Friday.
Inspired by Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji's call to increase the use of public transport, the initiative is built on the belief that the future of urban mobility will be shaped not just by infrastruture, but by the choices we make every day.
As India’s leading business district, BKC has the opportunity to lead this shift by creating a culture of smarter, more sustainable commuting.
What begins as a #NoCarDay every Friday has the potential to become a powerful movement for cleaner air, reduced congestion, lower emissions and more liveable cities.

BKC's last-mile problem has stumped Mumbai for years. MMRDA thinks pod taxis (small automated cabins gliding above traffic) are the answer.
But the math gives experts pause: at full capacity, the system moves 48K people a day. BKC sees up to 6 lakh.
Is this a genuine transit solution or an expensive experiment that solves too little? @sabahvir asked experts:
