At the peak of Nirbhaya protests in December 2012, then Chief Justice of India late Altamas Kabir and a sitting Supreme Court lady judge Gyan Sudha Misra had given rare public statements condemning the use of force against protestors and had supported the youth who had come out to register their anguish.
Late Justice Kabir had gone to the extent of saying that he wanted to join the protests, but his position prevented him from doing so.
Justice Misra had said she was breaking the judges self-imposed code of silence since rare situations demanded extraordinary responses.
Compare it to the current students agitation, not only has the Judiciary lowered its esteem in the eyes of the country's citizens by its judicial actions, but public utterances of lordships are irreparably damaging the institution.
#Imp: Three young boys have been detained by the @DelhiPolice at Nizamuddin Police Station for carrying food to Jantar Mantar. Yes, you read that right!
Several reports of young kids being detained for no reason. Central Delhi being cordoned off. Why is the new @CPDelhi cracking down like he is serving in North Korea?
Please remember you are officers. Not goons of the government. People will not tolerate this. Stop terrorising young kids RIGHT NOW!
@Cockroachisback
As an alumni of Delhi University and as a law maker myself being a Member of Parliament I totally condemn this misleading and threatening statement from @UnivofDelhi
Which SC ruling has rendered the Jantar Mantar demonstrations/assemblies as blanket “unlawful” as claimed in this DU statement? Shame on DU for lying to its students.
Narendra Modi has run out of clean faces to hide behind.
To protect Vineet Joshi, the government has replaced the Education Secretary with someone who should himself be under scrutiny.
New Education Secretary Naresh Pal Gangwar's wife, mother and son collectively received over ₹1.16 crore in National Horticulture Board subsidies while he served as Secretary, Animal Husbandry & Fisheries.
That’s how deep-rooted corruption is in this government.
Masterstroke: IAS officer Naresh Pal Gangwar, whose family allegedly involved in the cucumber subsidy scam, has been appointed the country's new Education Secretary.
People bringing in food from Nizamuddin have been detained by Nizamuddin Police.
On asking SI Brahm Prakash why they were detained, he’s like “wo khaana lekar jaa rahe they”
Like seriously, @DelhiPolice?
How dare you threaten students for exercising their democratic rights?
Please note, you are the ones that will be held accountable when the time comes.
The government is rewarding corruption instead of ensuring accountability!
Last night, the Education Secretary was transferred. He was replaced by an IAS officer from the Animal Husbandry Department who has severe multi-crore corruption charges against him.
The entire crisis around paper leaks and NEET was about systemic corruption. Replacing one bureaucrat with another facing serious corruption allegations is a direct INSULT to young people across India.
Is this the "compromise" the government expects us to accept? This is not accountability. We will not stop until Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigns ✊
The PM does not have the courage to stand up in Parliament, speak and engage in serious debate like all his predecessors did when the occssion demanded.
This morning he has put out a social media post to show that he is concerned with the issues being raised by students across the country. Actually, the post such as it is demonstrates that he is shaken and rattled.
Vote Chori, Seat Chori, Chanda Chori, Exam Paper Chori…. the list goes on and on.
Fake News by Arnab's @republic TV. Based on an AI generated letter, They ran 7 min video claiming, Bangladeshi Jamaat-E-Islami wrote a letter supporting Student protest at Jantar Mantar Delhi.
Chhatron ka gussa ground reporters pe na phoote, islie I petition to @aajtak@ZeeNews@ndtv@news24tvchannel@indiatvnews@TimesNow . SEND YOUR MAIN ANCHORS.
Send Anjana, Sudhir, Aman, Gullu, Sushant, Chitra, Rubika, Navika. Send them.
They are experienced. They will be able to control the crowd.
Requesting all news anchors to get out of their studios and attempt to do debates at the protest sites.
Face the swarm you cowards, don't send junior reporters to face humiliation & heckling.
That is a result of YOUR actions.

Delhi Police has just brought in a totally damaged car and placed it outside the protest site at Jantar Mantar.
Why have you placed this car here @DelhiPolice? What do you intend to show with this car?
Everyone should remember this car has been brought here in this condition - important to record before they can blame it on peaceful protesters.

An Outlook India reporter was among those injured during the police crackdown, with medical records documenting pellet wounds even as Delhi Police deny using the weapon.

VISUALS AT CENTRAL SECRETARIAT METRO STATION
Every time you block ordinary people from using the Metro and inconvenience people, they ALL become protesters.
Your strategy is totally backfiring! Everything you’re trying is failing.
