I want to do tech content and shi,
but f man, I hate IG.
But it’s genuinely the only platform where you can actually reach a broader audience.
(Yeah, also TikTok -> another thing I hate.)
All these places are brainrot ambassadors.
X is the only place where I genuinely find exciting and insightful things and people, and I consider growing here much more rewarding.
But man, it’s haaard.
Maybe YouTube is a good place as well, but there’s the same bottleneck: people love vertical content.
I guess the problem is in how I look at these things.
There’s probably nothing wrong with using a platform to boost yourself and then migrating the audience that actually cares to another platform.
Well yeah, if your time is that valuable, you’ll absolutely waste it on this rant and public roast.
But we got the point, Sensei.
Hope that guy gets it too.
No, I won’t check out your portfolio.
Here’s why.
Anytime you ask someone to do something, it’s a pitch. In a pitch, say what’s in it for the other person.
What’s in it for me to check out your portfolio? Why would I spend my time, energy, and attention—all of which I value highly—on that as opposed to anywhere else?
If there’s nothing in it for me, then you’re asking for charity.
If you’re asking for charity, then ask for charity. Make it clear. I like doing favors sometimes and being charitable sometimes. But I can’t tell if that’s what you’re asking for, and I won’t assume it.
Even if I agreed to it, you haven’t even given me any criteria. Is there something specific you want help with? Something to improve? Something you’re stuck on? Some job it’s not doing?
General questions get general answers. Specific questions get specific answers.
Since I don’t know what you want help with and there doesn’t seem to be much incentive for me, it’s a pass.
Here are some examples of pitches I would consider more (even if I’d still say no):
“Dan, would you be willing to do me a favor and review my portfolio to help me land a design job working on a U.S.-based team for a fintech startup?”
“Dan, can you please review my portfolio to see if the UI design work feels closer to junior or senior caliber? I’ll make a donation to your favorite non-profit as a token of thanks.”
“Dan, would you mind looking at my portfolio to see if I’m the kind of person you’d hire? I know you value your time, attention, and energy, so I’d gladly take any feedback you can provide after looking for even 30 seconds.”
@odeniransulaimo, wanna pitch again? I’m open to you trying again if you’d like.
But even better: pitch someone who’s in a closer position to help you get what you want. If you want a job at a sports betting startup, pitch a hiring manager at a sports betting startup to check out your portfolio. Even if they won’t hire you for THEIR startup, their feedback would be way more relevant to getting a job at a sports betting startup than my feedback would be, since I’ve never worked at a sport betting startup.
In short, when you pitch, make it about them and make it as easy as possible for them to give you what you want.
And since I’m on V1 now (bumped from V0.1.0 MVP), I want to talk about what I’m building.
https://t.co/IbYisXyTpz started with a simple problem.
So, 3 months later, I’m launching V1 - quite long by today’s standards, when people ship in a week xD
I had a friction. I wanted a good tool for myself, then thought I could take it further, add the features I actually needed, ship it, and validate it with real users.
You’ll notice a lot of similarities between https://t.co/IbYisXyTpz and https://t.co/Tk7FAvRZPE (it’s mostly a copycat for now).
I liked the product idea, but it lacked what I really needed: a fully AI-native approach to UI context extraction, JS/CSS animation extraction and interpretation, and many more things I want to add to Domshift in the future.
There are still some differences already:
- Better extraction output in the preview and extracted artifacts (HTML + CSS + Tailwind)
- Improved Tailwind extraction
- Preview mode to inspect the extraction up close
Custom CSS modifications
Of course, these are features that could probably be gapped in a sprint.
But I want to focus much more on extraction quality and real-world usability than anything else.
I want a tool that becomes the center of my UI-building workflow, not just a generic instrument for small extractions.
Here are the features I shipped with the V1.1.0 release of https://t.co/IbYisXyTpz:
- PNG export -> new export format selector with Tailwind, HTML + CSS, PNG, and AI extract.
- CSS animations -> finds animations on the selected element, with play, pause, replay, playback speed, timeline, keyframe editor, and timing controls.
- AI context extract -> generates a short component spec covering hover, active, focus-visible, and disabled states. Copy it in two steps: the prompt, then the image.
- Asset extraction — images and SVGs can be copied or downloaded as PNG, WebP, JPG, or SVG, with file size shown.
- Media page -> Images and Lottie tabs, “Show on the page,” downloads in several formats, and Lucide icons in the navigation.
- Canvas recorder -> records <canvas> to WebM at 60 FPS and automatically stops after 30 seconds.
Yeah, I use Twitter as my changelog.
