leading korean actresses such as kim hye-soo, kim hee-ae, son ye-jin, shim hye-jin, won mi-kyung, lee mi-sook, jung ryeo-won, and han ji-min, found the freedom to explore new facets of their acting under his direction. the appeal of director ahn pan-seok’s works lay in portraying women who continued to grow even after reaching adulthood. the reason female viewers have expressed such deep sorrow over his passing is that so many of them found comfort and nurtured their imagination through his works.

[ XX : COSMOS ] TRAILER Interpretation (it’s very long, but maybe interesting?)

ACT I. — The Beginning
It begins in space: the birth of a Big Bang.
In the first episode of <BIGBANG THE BEGINNING>, the ending showed the members walking beneath blossoming trees. Here, that imagery seems to return, except now it is the BIGBANG of 20 years later walking through a field of flowers. That parallel will make more sense by the end.
Then comes the first eruption: BIGBANG’s birth and debut in 2006.

ACT II. — The Explosion
The piano appears, immediately bringing to mind the opening notes of Lies, the song that completely changed the trajectory of BIGBANG’s career.
One small note, and the eruption intensifies.
BIGBANG explodes.
From there, the sequence moves into The Great Concert in 2007, and eventually into fireworks. The eruption has now become celebration, marking their rise to the very top.

ACT III. — The Storm
Then everything changes.
The storm feels like the turmoil of 2011, one of the biggest crises of their career. Yet BIGBANG survived it and returned, eventually reaching another enormous peak in 2015.
But the imagery is different now. The red figure with the bat seems to reference LOSER and MADE, an era filled with loneliness, aggression and vulnerability beneath all that success.
And with that level of fame came scrutiny.
Every movement and every mistake unfolded beneath an enormous spotlight.
Then people begin disappearing into the smoke.
The scene carries the atmosphere of LAST DANCE, but retrospectively it also feels like the beginning of the long hiatus ahead: people leaving, members leaving, and the BIGBANG that once existed gradually disappearing from public view.
And finally, everything burns.

What I find especially interesting is how the meaning of fire completely reverses throughout the trailer.
At the beginning, fire means creation: the eruption is their birth, their rise, their explosion.
Here, the same element becomes destruction.
The world they spent years building appears to burn down, leaving behind a bleak landscape and an uncertain road ahead.

But the flower field is still there.

ACT IV. XX — twenty years.
After everything that happened in between, somehow they have reached their 20th anniversary.
The film begins with cosmos as the universe where a Big Bang is born.
It ends with cosmos as a flower, something that grows again from the ground after everything has burned.

And at the very end, the same three members stand in that flower field again. But this time they are not simply walking toward an unknown future.

The film deliberately returns to the imagery of the beginning but only after passing through everything that came in between.

The same road. The same flowers.
But twenty years later, they are no longer the same people who first walked through that field.
They have lived through the debut, the height of fame, the storms, the losses and the fall.
And somehow, the cosmos is blooming again.

This is a restart:
They are not trying to return to what BIGBANG used to be. They are beginning again from everything BIGBANG has already survived.
